I can’t believe that Yoshi already had her first birthday. We brought her home last September when she was only 8 weeks old so we figured out her birthday was around July 28th. It won’t be long before we’ve had her for a year. I can hardly believe it and it’s amazing how much she’s changed and grown.
Here’s a photo from the pet shelter the day we bought her:
Here’s a couple recent photos.
Can you believe it’s even the same dog? The shelter said she was a hound mix and it didn’t even hit us until we took her to the vet that they meant she could be part Bloodhound. We did a little reading and were floored by just how huge Bloodhounds can get. The vet was certain that’s what she was but as you can see she really looks nothing like a Bloodhound now. It’s hard to say exactly what she is. We definitely think part hound of some sort because she does howl a bit when she barks and she has some loose skin on the top of her head and under her neck. We saw a dog at the dog park the other day that looked quite a bit like her and it was clear it was mostly German Shepherd, so we were wondering if maybe she was also a bit of a German Shepherd. Her long legs have us stumped though and almost make me want to say Great Dane – yikes!
Whatever she is, she’s adorable and we love her. Though we are glad she’ll stop growing soon!
She’s also a smart cookie. The kids have taught her a bunch of tricks like sit, stay, beg, shake, high five, lay down, roll over, “hoop” which is jumping through a hoop. She’s picked them up all pretty quickly.
Here she is rolling over and jumping through the hoop.
Isn’t that cute?
We are impressed by how much she has learned so far and would love to get her into dog agility down the road. I’ve always thought it would be amazing to train a dog to be a therapy dog too, but I’m wondering now if she’s too big? I have to do a little more looking into it. Either way, it’ll be an exciting year 2 for Yoshi and we look forward to many more frisbee catches, hoop jumping, and trips to the dog park.
Boy has she grown! And she’s very good at teaching your kids tricks.
Yoshi is so big, look at how long her legs look in the pictures. Looks like she’s a wonderful part of your family.
Wow, she grew quickly! I love the puppy picture.
She sure has grown into a pretty lady! Love all the pictures:)
Yoshi Is Super Cute! She Has Grown To Be A Big Dog, And I Love The Video You Shared Of Her Jumping Through The Hoop.
She’s definitely a hound/German Shepherd mix. Cute dog! Thanks for sharing!
