I wrote this review while participating in a test-drive campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whirlpool and received a complimentary Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer to facilitate my review.
Whirlpool and Mom Central recently chose 50 bloggers to test drive the Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer. If you follow me on Twitter you may have seen my excited announcement that I was chosen to be one of these Whirlpool Moms! I’m thrilled and honored to be among this group of influential mom bloggers and looking forward to sharing my experiences with the Duet over the next couple of months.
The Whirlpool Duet arrived at our house about 2 weeks ago and laundry has never been more fun!
The new washer and dryer are so much larger than our old set that it makes it easy to get more laundry done faster.
They also come with an incredible amount of features. Just some of the cycles on the washer include:
- Whitest Whites
- Allergen
- Bulky Items
- Jeans
- Delicate
- Hand Wash
There’s even a setting for Specialty Cycles where you can select Sheets, Comforters, Pillows, Wool Sweaters, Business Wear, Intimates, and more.
Also, I can’t forget to mention a feature that will soon become a favorite – in the Wash/Rinse options there’s a Sanitize setting which reduces 99.9% of bacteria and prevents carryover of bacteria between loads after the cycle is complete. I foresee us using this selection often in the next couple of months as we head into cold/flu season.
Two of my favorite features of the Whirlpool Duet Washer is the Precision Dispense and the Fan Fresh with Steam.
Precision Dispense is a dispenser cartridge that holds up to 18.5 oz of liquid HE detergent, which is enough for up to 36 loads depending on the cycle.
This means I can pour the detergent into the cartridge once and the Duet Washer will dispense the proper amount of detergent for each wash up to 36 loads! Isn’t that amazing?!
The FanFresh option periodically tumbles the wash after the end of the cycle for up to 16 hours while the interior fan circulates air through the washer to reduce humidity.
I love to use this feature when I do that last load of laundry at night and am just too tired to head to the basement to change it or if I’ve put a load in and we are out of the house for the day. It keeps the clothes from getting that musty smell and I’ve found it really helps reduce wrinkles.
I also just read that the FanFresh feature also turns my washer into a dryer! When combined with the Quick Wash cycle it will wash and dry a small load of lightweight items overnight. I haven’t used this yet, but can’t wait to try it out!
The dryer also offers a large selection of cycles similar to those listed above for the washer.
My favorite feature of the Duet Dryer is the Steam Cycles. There is a Wrinkle Shield with Steam option which is similar to the washer’s FanFresh where it willl tumble clothes periodically and add a short steam refresh cycle after an hour to help avoid wrinkles.
There is also the Quick Refresh with Steam and Enhanced Touch Up options which utilize the Wrinkle Shield and Static Reduce selections. These settings are used to remove odors and reduce wrinkles.
I love all three of these cycles because they’ve saved me so much time. I haven’t had to iron once since the Duet arrived!
Kora and Logan also love the Whirlpool Duet. Their favorite feature is the light that allows them to watch the clothes wash and dry. Here’s a quick video of them seeing the Duet in action for the first time:
I’ve just touched on a few of my very favorite features in this post. I recently had a chance to stay at the Whirlpool Real Whirled House where I learned so much more about the Whirlpool Duet, other Whirlpool products, and about the corporation itself. I’m excited to share my experience in the Real Whirled House and all of the tips and tricks I learned in a post later this week.
I’m also looking forward to sharing more about the new washer and dryer over the next couple of months. Let me know if you have any questions about the Duet and I’ll be happy to answer them for you.
great review! I love the detergent dispenser option; and I’d also love the whitest white option! Congrats for being picked.
So jealous. I hate our washer and dryer. We have front loaders but don’t have the stands so it is way too low when loading laundry also the capacity sucks. Doubt I will get new ones anytime soon though as ours are only 2 years old.
I super love all of the features. Especially the Whitest of Whites. My husband says our towels have never smelled or felt better before. Glad your enjoying the Duet!
I really like the detergent dispensing option – that’s awesome!
I really like that you can put enough detergent in for 36 loads. That’s just one less things to do! There are so many neat features and you covered them well!
Tesa I loved watching your kids reaction! lol so cute!!
It was fun getting to know you last week at the house.
I loved your review I hope to get a whirlpool set in the future. The one thing I have been wandering about is that smell but see others asked about that and feel better now reading this.
I am curious along this journey what you and the other mom’s think of the front loading. I have heard from some they are not all that nice, my mom loves hers. We are going to replacing ours next year and I am torn on which way to go.
I dream of a washer like that! My washer is like fifteen years old and has two settings. The Precision Dispense is really nice, and i love how many settings there are. Happy washing!
I’m so excited to try mine – they came today while I was at work! It’s weird to say you are excited about laundry….lol
I totally didn’t read that Washer/Dryer bit I’m going to have to try that now too LOL!
Wow! So lucky to be able to test these great machines. I would love to have a front loader, but my husband dislikes them. I think the only way I could ever get front loaders is if I were lucky enough to test them. LOL ;-)
Congratulations on being chosen to test the washer and dryer! That is just wonderful! I’ve been shopping for a new w&d and am looking forward to your opinions on this set.
Being that I do 90% of the laundry in our house I would love this washer and dryer. The two things I love are the amount of different wash settings as well as what the setting are. I would love the towel setting because I feel our dish and bath towels don’t get as clean as they probably could or should. Great review and thanks for sharing.
I’m jealous! We have an older front loader and I loved it at first because it cut my water bill in 1/2, but mine leaves the clothes smelling moldy and gross even if I put them right in the dryer. I’ve tried everything. Was going to get a new top loader instead but this is making me rethink that! :)
That stinks! (literally!) One of the tips I learned from the Whirlpool Real Whirled House is to leave the washer door open when it’s empty to help eliminate and prevent that smell. Also, they suggested using Affresh washer cleaner. Hope that helps!
