Our kids are little geniuses (but I’m slightly biased!) in elementary school, and are not always challenged during the school year. We think it is important to make sure they do some extra work at home during the school year and during summer as well. One of our go to options is handing them the iPad and letting them play some coding apps, they think it’s something fun, but it is actually funducational!
The ones they love the most are the coding apps. They get to be very creative and learn the basics of coding, which is being taught in school and will be a big part of their future.
Top 5 Coding Apps for Kids:
Here are some of our favorite coding apps available for your iOS and Android devices which will entertain your child while they are learning.

ScratchJr. – This is a free app that allows young children to start learning the basics of computer programming or coding. A great combination of math and language – along with great pictures and characters will have your child easily and quickly learning how to code. ScratchJr. is for children 5-7, then they can graduate to Scratch, which is a little more complex and for a little older children.
Hopscotch – Create and play your own version of games. Once your child creates a game, you have the option to publish it and share it with others. This is a drag and drop game where the only limit is your imagination. Games like Geometry Dash, fashion design, space journey, making music and more, will allow your child to learn while playing and making their own games. There are many tutorial videos that will help you learn and be even more creative.
Lightbot – Your child will be solving all sorts of age appropriate puzzles using programming logic. Starting simple and then advancing to more complex coding principles, your child will enjoy solving these puzzles and once again will be “tricked” into learning while having a blast.
Sphero MacroLab – This is another coding app which works with a separate robot – either Sphero or Ollie. This app will allow you to control your little robot with simple and repeatable commands. You will control your robot with this app and have a ton of options and videos to learn from as your program over 30 commands and watch your programs come to life with Sphero or Ollie. Check out our past experience with Sphero.
Check out these apps, they work with both Android and iOS systems and will provide hours of funducational time for your child.

Top Tech That Keeps Kids Safe: Wearables, Apps, Sites, & Devices
Even I like the robot one. These are so good for early learning. I think adults should try their hand at coding or programming too since it can be fun. I took a C programming course years ago and picked it up pretty quickly, and I’m not techy, but in the medical field. Good that most everything is available in android too.
Learned a lot about this posts. I need to introduce these apps to my kids. Thanks for sharing
