When buying gifts for Kora & Logan for Christmas I like to make sure they have a lot of little things to unwrap. They are always so excited about everything that thankfully they are just as happy to receive cheaper gifts as they are expensive items. However, I don’t like to give them cheap items that won’t last long or they only play with once. Sometimes it’s quite a challenge trying to find good quality gifts that don’t cost a lot. This year though I was thrilled to have stumbled across a great gift idea that brought back memories for me and helped the kids create this.
Isn’t that amazing? They worked really hard on it for 2 1/2 hours and used the Snow Block Makers that I got them for Christmas. It was funny because when the opened them they had no idea what they were. Then a few days later it snowed. Unfortunately it wasn’t good building snow so they didn’t get a chance to play withe them very much. We didn’t have to wait long though. It snowed again and they immediately got to work.
It was so cute watching them build this amazing fort. They worked out a system where Logan was the engineer and Kora was the labor. After it got to a certain height Kora became the one in charge of filling the snow block makers with the snow and bringing them to the fort. Logan would then make sure everything was in line and pat it all together to keep it secure.
As they were building I sent photos to my mom. I asked her if she remembered my sister and I ever building a fort that big and she said no that we burned out way before that. She couldn’t believe how well they were working together and how impressive their fort was. I told her they even did it while having to fend off an excited Yoshi who was determined to run and leap through their fort. They took a pop can out that had a couple of coins in it and would shake it a little when she looked like she was going to knock it down and it would deter her. Pretty creative!
They also tried putting a top on it with cardboard but the pieces were already wet with snow and were too small so they didn’t reach. I was hoping it would be cold enough that the fort would stand through the next couple of days. The Polar Vortex was heading our way and I knew they wouldn’t be able to get outside again for a few days so I thought if the temps didn’t rise too high it stood a chance of making it through until they could play with it again.
It did end up warming up enough to rain which melted half the fort. Kora & Logan were a little disappointed but they then decided they were excited to get the chance to build it again once they can get back out. I love their spirit and excitement about everything. It sure makes getting through a cold snowy winter a lot more fun.
What about you? What have you been enjoying this winter? What’s the best thing you’ve purchased recently?
I bought one of these for my son this winter too. We haven’t had good packing snow yet and it’s been way too cold but I can’t wait for him to be able to build a snow fort with it. Definitely was a great buy!
This looks neat. I have to get one for my two boys
With all the snow we’re having this winter, I need to find one of these. I can’t get my kids to play in the snow, maybe they’d have more incentive if fort building was involved!
What a neat item and a great build on the igloo. This looks like so much fun and I know my grandchildren would have a blast with it if we had snow down here in Louisiana. I did get a great deal on a weaving loom for my granddaughter and she just loves it.
So awesome! I wish we would have had any snow to make an igloo with!
I’m happy to send you some!
I remember those days! Beautiful wintery days filled with fort building in the backyard. Luckily my parents would always have large snow banks from the snow plow that would do our driveway. It made for some awesome fort building!
Didn’t even know they made things like that. I’ll have to check if I can get some locally. I’m sure my stepson and I would have a blast!
They look like they are having a blast!!!
Awesome!!! I remember making an igloo when i was younger with my sister and brother it took us hours & we didn’t have something neat like this we did it by hand it lasted for 2 weeks I was sad when it melted. I would love to get my boys this where did you get them?
That is so neat and keeps the children busy and active! We haven’t gotten any snow yet but I know once we do we’ll enjoy sledding in our yard.
Impressive!
So fun! The snow block makers are simple and so cool to play with. It got them outside and also working together!
That is SO cool! Sometimes we think imaginative play is a thing of the past, but this just goes to show that it’s not. I made a conscious effort this year NOT to buy my Bebe Boy James any videogames or videogame-related items – one of my best investments was a big foam-type sled I purchased at Home Depot on sale before Christmas. It didn’t really snow ENOUGH here for GREAT sledding (definitely not enough for a sled with runners), but a couple of days after Christmas, there was enough snow here to make for “OK” sledding (so I thought). I wrapped up two of the grandbebes and Bebe Boy James (taking along another smaller sled from a couple of years ago), and walked to a local sledding hill. What fun!!!
We don’t get that kind of snow for the kids to build snow forts, they would love it though, kudos for a great gift idea!
My kids never had these, I think my Grandkids would love them, looks like fun!
Good job Kora and Logan! I remember our kids having these blocks too. They would play with them all the time and build forts.
