Spring is getting closer, however those of us in the Midwest still have the specter of snow all the way through April. Over the last couple of weeks I have been playing around with a new app called SnowCast and really appreciate some of the ways it can help you plan and also make the best of a cold & snowy situation.
As a family, we like to go outside and have some fun. In the winter months, this includes sled riding, skiing, making a snowman and even games of snow soccer. Now with the SnowCast app, we have a snow estimator which is able to give us a better idea of exactly how much snow we will get for our exact location.
The weather channels are great, but they cover a whole area, we all really just want to know how much snow our neighborhood will get. This will can impact our plans greatly and we could get just an inch or 2 while a city 10 miles away gets 6 inches, that’s a big difference and the TV weather people don’t have time to tell snow fall for your city specifically . . . but SnowCast can.
When using SnowCast, you are able to know how much snow will fall in your location. You are able to see present snow fall – Now and within the next 6 hours. Also, you can see future snow fall over the next 48 hours in 6 hour increments.
There are so many things that knowing the snowfall amounts for your specific area will be beneficial for;
- Will there be a snow day tomorrow?
- Can we go skiing?
- Do I need to leave early for work?
- Should I take that longer drive now or tomorrow?
- Do I shovel the driveway now or wait a couple of hours?
So many ways SnowCast is beneficial as a snow estimator!
All of this knowledge is accessible in an easy to use app, the interface is nice and clean, easy to understand and set up. The most complex thing is setting your address, which all you have to do is allow your iOS device to access your location. Do this and you are off to the races.
SnowCast uses NOAA winter weather warnings and advisories along with fast loading and accurate radar to help keep you ahead of the curve when it comes to snowy days in your area. You also have the ability to set the app up to provide you with notifications which you can select – do you want to know when more than 1” of snow is coming?
Or would you prefer to be notified about 2”, 5” or 8”+. Or maybe all of the above.
Will you get a ton of snow?
or are you free of snow and able to keep that shovel in the garage?
Now with SnowCast, there is no more wondering if the snow will throw a wrench into your weekend plans, you will be able to plan better and make better, safer decisions.
SnowCast is available for your iPhone and iPad, Download the app for yourself.
So now when life gives you snow, go make a snowman . . . thanks to SnowCast.

This would be very helpful for me. Fingers crossed that there is no more snow for us this season.
This looks neat. Ohio usually gets a descent amount of snow. I need to look into this more.
This sounds like an awesome app to have so you get a more accurate snowfall forecast.
Could be helpful. But I need an Uber-like app for shoveling.
I am for sure going to download this app next winter. Sounds great!
Oh this app looks really neat! We get lots of snow where we are, and this would be so helpful to us!
Pretty cool app. I think we’re finally rid of the snow up here but I’ll definitely give this a try next year. Thanks for sharing.
I so do not miss snow! I am from Michigan, we got a lot of snow and they’re still getting some here and there. It will go from 60 one week to snow the next. Living in Tennessee now, we get very little snow. This app though looks like it would be awesome to keep track on the little snow we do get.
What an awesome app because like you, I want to know how much snow that my area will be getting so I can plan according to the weather conditions. I will have to check out this app!
I will definitely be downloading this app come next Winter! We have tons of snow in Michigan and this will come in very handy!
Now this is a good one! I am in the midwest an that means snow sometimes lots of it. There is nothing worse than shoveling because the weather person says we are done, and then 2 hours later, shoveling again. I like this one a lot!
Huh, very interesting… I live in Florida so it doesn’t snow here but still my kids live where the snow flies a few times a year. I will pass this app along..
