Did you know that April is National Grilled Cheese Month? I love a great grilled cheese sandwich. They are quick, easy, and can be customized anyway you like. If you are in the mood for something fancy, try a Havarti & avocado grilled cheese. Something heartier? Make a lasagna grilled cheese. Busy day? Keep it simple with a slice or two of American cheese. That’s why I’m excited to work with Kraft on this sponsored recipe. As a Kraft Tastemaker I was recently browsing the grilled cheese recipes on the Kraft Foods site and was amazed at how many different types you can make.
Inspired, I decided to brainstorm and come up with a grilled cheese sandwich I had never made or tried before. I thought about the recipes on the Kraft Foods site, I thought about the grilled cheese restaurants back in Cleveland. Then it hit me. What if I combined two of my favorite foods – grilled cheese and pizza?
I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to try it. The next time I was at the grocery store I picked up the ingredients and as soon as I got home I started cooking. I buttered two slices of bread and placed them butter side down on a hot skillet. On one side of the bread, I spooned on a couple of tablespoons of pizza sauce, topped it with two slices of provolone and then pepperoni. I added a bit more pizza sauce, closed up the sandwich and let it cook.
After a bit I flipped it over and cooked the other side. I couldn’t wait to try it! Once it was lightly browned, I put it on a plate and took a bit. The sauce was bubbly warm, the cheese was soft and melty, and the pepperoni added delicious flavor.
I was excited with how well this pizza grilled cheese sandwich turned out. It tasted just like pizza and was incredibly easy to make. Now whenever someone in the family is in the mood for pizza I can serve this up and know I’ll be greeted with big smiles. I recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a delicious, creative, and new way to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Month and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
