That’s why I was excited about the follow items. They are fantastic summer boredom busters and will keep the kids entertained for hours. I also love that they all get the kids thinking and often up off the couch. Check out these fun ideas to learn more about how they can keep your kids entertained this summer.
Insect Lore – Mail Order Caterpillars
When Insect Lore – Mail Order Caterpillars arrived my kids were so excited they could barely wait to open it. Their cousins had received this as a gift a couple of years ago and they all talked about it since. We were amazed with how easy it was to set up and we couldn’t believe that in just a few weeks the caterpillars turned into butterflies. The kids were enthralled by the process and Dave and I couldn’t have been happier with how simple it was. We kept the caterpillars in their container until they climbed to the top and formed their chrysalis, then following the instructions we transferred them to the net enclosure. We patiently waited and one day we had butterflies! They all climbed out of their chrysalis at the same time. It was incredible!
We carefully fed them sugar water as instructed and two weeks later they were ready to be released. While it was a bit sad to let them go, it was an fascinating and fun experience.
I was also very pleased with the customer service at Insect Lore. When the caterpillars were making their way to the top, Kora was looking at the container and dropped it. The plastic side cracked and some of them fell down. I called the number and someone answered right away. She was very kind and assured me they would be fine and the crack was nothing to worry about. It’s nice to find pleasant and friendly customer service these days and we were very glad she was knowledgeable and reassuring.
I highly recommend Insect Lore – Mail Order Caterpillars. It’s great summer boredom buster for kids and would make a memorable gift idea too.
Oddly Obvious
We are always on the lookout for family friendly games and Oddly Obvious is an exciting new game where all the answers are right in front of you. One player reads a short riddle while the other players race to find the answers on the game card. The answers are in different fonts and colors and written up, down, and even upside down. The object is to shout out the most answers to win. It’s a great game for older kids and adults and is sure to get everyone laughing.
Crazy Legs
While Oddly Obvious is fun for the older crowd, Crazy Legs will get the little ones up and moving. Each space on the board is a new physical challenge that gets you jumping, shaking, twisting, and laughing. All the while you move around the board exercising your way to victory.
Gear Ball
Gear Ball is a bit bigger than a baseball and it’s full of colorful surfaces. You twist and turn it until all six sides are one solid color. The sides can rotate on all three axis – around the center, from top to bottom holding the left and right sides, and from top to bottom holding the front and back sides. It has a very fun gear rotation to it and it’s a challenging puzzle that will keep us all spinning, twisting, and turning in the coming months.
Great Minds Set Of Five
Each of the puzzles in this Great Minds Set Of Five reflects an aspect of the “Great Mind” who inspired it. It includes Keplar’s Star, Faraday’s Magnetic Field, Franklin’s Kite, Edison’s Light Filament and Stephenson’s Railway Sleepers puzzles. These puzzles are all small enough and of such intriguing design that you can leave them out all summer to be picked up any time they catch your eye. They are also tough and will keep kids busy for ages.
Monkeys Up
Monkeys Up is a action math game for kids full of memory, strategy, and fun. Players compete to get the best score by flipping, switching, and stealing monkeys. Each monkey has a value under it’s feet that is only revealed when flipped. The object is to flip 3 monkeys up with the highest combined numerical value. It’s a fun game for 2-6 players ages 6 and up.
PongCano
Looking for a lot of laughs? PongCano will deliver. It’s a simple game, bounce the ball into the volcano. Sounds easy enough, try it when you can’t stop laughing! If you miss the shot you put a chip in the volcano. Make a shot and win all the chips. Everyone remains in the game until one player wins all the chips. It’s a fun light-hearted game that tests your hand-eye coordination and is sure to create a lot of fun summer memories.
These games, toys, and brainteasers are summer boredom busters that will keep the kids in your life from yelling, “I’m bored!” They will get them thinking, up and moving, smiling, and laughing all summer long.

These all look like so much fun! My grandkids would enjoy these games for sure.
I love all of these activities and especially the yoga one that encourages exercise and movement. I learned yoga as a young teen and have practiced it for decades. Love the butterflies too!
