We are always on the lookout for fun places to vacation to. Now that our children are old enough to enjoy more things on vacation, this makes our search much more fun. I recently learned about a very beautiful area in New York called the Hudson Valley. It has everything necessary to plan and enjoy a fun family vacation.
What I love most about the idea of a Hudson Valley vacation is that there are so many things to do outdoors as a family, and plenty available for a couple’s vacation as well.
Check out these fun things to do in Hudson Valley on a summer vacation.
Get Outside!
After being bottled up inside with snow and cold weather, the summer provides some incredible options for family fun in Hudson Valley. Rock climbing, paddle boarding, hiking, canoeing, biking, horseback riding, beaches and even just relaxing and breathing in the fresh outdoor air.
Farms & Gold
All throughout the area there are “Pick Your Own” Farms which provide such a fun activity to do as a group. From apples to any veggie you can imagine, you can tour and check out the farming process, and maybe even pick up some fresh cider too! Don’t forget about Hudson Valley gold, there are honey sellers all throughout the area which will provide you with some un-bee-lievable tastes.
Scenic Views & Trails
There is a reward for taking on all the available hikes in the Hudson Valley. You get some incredible views of the area. The Sky Top Tower is an incredible spot (after a healthy hike) to check out the view of 6 states and some incredible views.
In addition to the hiking trails, the Walkway over the Hudson is truly a marvel to behold. This bridge is over a mile long and over 200 feet high. It is the world’s largest pedestrian bridge and offers ever changing views year round.
Many couples use the scenic views of the valley as a great place to get married too!
Wine & Ale Trails
There is plenty of fun for families on the Hudson Valley, but you can also have some fun adult time too! With 6 wineries, 5 distilleries and at least 5 local breweries, there are plenty of options to experience something new and fun. All these locations are in the area, remember to have fun & responsible.
Mohonk Kid’s Club
While the adults are away, the kids can play . . . at the Mohonk Kid’s Club, which is complimentary when you stay at the historic Victorian Castle themed Mohonk Mountain House.
Junior Naturalist Program
Offered daily throughout the summer as part of the Kid’s Club, the Junior Naturalist Program introduces children to the wonders of the outdoor world through eco-friendly activities that provide a hands on approach to nature and learning.
Mohonk Mountain House
This National Historical Monument is a huge and fun place for families to stay as they enjoy their time in the Hudson Valley. Ranked as one of the best family hotels by Travel + Leisure. I mentioned the Kid’s Club earlier, you can take advantage of the world class spa (ranked the Number One Resort Spa by Condé Nast Traveler) at the Mountain House while you are comfortable knowing that your children are safe and having fun. This way you are have peace of mind while the adults have some fun in the spa!
There are so many activities to take advantage of in the Hudson Valley, it’s an incredible destination to take the family to and have an awesome time with all your options.
