I have partnered with the J.M. Smucker Company to create these after school snack tips. They sent products and coupons and compensation was received. The honest opinions are our own.
Happy National Sandwich Day! I’m excited about today. As parents of elementary school kids sandwiches are a big part of our lives. We eat them for lunch every day and often after school and sometimes even for dinner. In honor of today, I thought it would be fun to look up the history of the sandwich. Here’s what I found:
In 1762, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, John Montagu, didn’t like to stop what he was doing to eat. So he took his dinner meat and put it between two slices of bread. He enjoyed it so much, he ate it often and it grew popular in London’s society circles. While the sandwich grew in popularity, it wasn’t until 1815 that a recipe for a sandwich appeared in an American cookbook!
In honor of National Sandwich Day, we are going to celebrate with some of Kora & Logan’s favorite sandwiches – Uncrustables.
They love these sandwiches because not only are they delicious but they are a great after school snack or delicious to eat on the go.
There are a number of varieties including:
- Peanut Butter & Grape Jelly
- Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam
- Peanut Butter & Honey Spread On Whole Wheat
- Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
- Peanut Butter & Raspberry Spread On Whole Wheat
- Peanut Butter & Grape Spread On Whole Wheat
- Reduced Sugar Peanut Butter & Grape Spread On Whole Wheat
We have been buying Uncrustables for years and Kora & Logan are always so excited to see a box or two in our freezer.
I like that you can take an Uncrustable out of the freezer before the kids get home from school and when they arrive, they are defrosted and ready to eat. They are also great to pack in the car on the way to after school activities – for some reason Kora & Logan are always hungry in the car and since Uncrustables are so convenient and delicious, bringing them along makes everyone happy. I also like that they are more filling then smaller snacks, so I’m not hearing the kids yell, “I’m hungry!” every 5 minutes.
The Uncrustables website has a great selection of food art and snack hacks that are a great way to celebrate National Sandwich Day.
Some of the food art includes:
- Reindeer
- Dog
- Turtle
- Ice Cream Cone
- Pirate
- Robot
The snack hacks are helpful (and delicious!). They include fun ways to serve fruit, how to send your kids secret messages in their lunchboxes and more.

National Sandwich Day is a great way to celebrate food that plays a big role in our family’s menu and I’ve already taken out two Uncrustables for Kora & Logan to enjoy when they get home from school. They will be excited to hear there is a day that honors their favorite food and will be excited to eat their favorite flavors: Kora = Peanut Butter & Strawberry and Logan = Peanut Butter & Grape.
