You’re in Columbus, it’s time to eat, but you are not quite sure what you want.
Meals provided.
If you like sweets, treats, pastries, and macaroons, your first stop should be Pistacia Vera.
The owners, Anne Fletcher and Spencer Budros, of Pistacia Vera in German Village have out done themselves with this restaurant.
The owners are extremely friendly and outgoing as is their staff. Every customer is treated as a special friend. The restaurant is sleek and clean.
Pistacia Vera is a pastry kitchen and cafe. Some of the menu items that stood out when we were there include quiches, shirred eggs and croquet monsieur. During our visit we ordered the Bacon, Onion, Spinach and Emmentaler Cheese Quiche.
It was placed on a shell of homemade pate brisee. Instead of a quiche that is flat and dense, this was light and fluffy. All Randy and I could say was, “mmm-mmm-mmm.”
Pistacia Vera is also well known for their Macaroons. In fact they sell 25,000 macaroons a month!
They are a light, crispy meringue sandwich cookie with a buttercream or ganache filling. We brought several home and gave some to our granddaughters. They ate theirs and wanted to know if there was more! We know what we will be sending to them in the future, since Pistacia Vera ships their wonderful dessert! We also brought home a chocolate chunk pistachio cookie, one of the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve had!
We were happy to have stopped at Pistacia Vera and are already excited to be stopping back in on our next trip to Columbus!
The next stop that can’t be missed is a foodie paradise – North Market.
With so many food vendors you are sure to find something you want. Everything is available from meat, poultry, fish, bread, pastries, produce, sweets, spices, and the utensils to cook them in.
We’ve been to these type of markets before, but they were very intimidating. Not here. Every vendor was friendly and willing to answer any questions we had.
What we found amazing is that this market is open seven days a week. The city that is located near us only keeps their market open on Saturdays. It goes to show you what a city can do when they have community support.
Everything we tried was delicious!
The waffles from the Taste of Belgium were just what sweet tooth like ourselves love.
We tried the Watermelon Popcorn and Strawberry Lemonade Popcorn from Pam’s Market Popcorn. Highly recommended!
At Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, I had the Peach Buttermilk Ice Cream and Randy had the Sweetcorn and Blackberry. Heaven in a cone!
At Hubert’s Polish Kitchen, the cucumber salad was out of this world. And we can’t wait for both of our sons-in-law to try the award winning bottle of hot sauce we bought at CaJon’s Flavor & Fire!
There are so many wonderful places to eat in Columbus and these are two of our favorites. They are places that we must stop at each time we visit. We area always discovering something new and delicious at Pistacia Vera and North Market. We can’t recommend these places enough and we can’t wait to go back ourselves!
