If the old me from 20 years ago could time travel to current time, he would probably try to slap my current self silly for what I am about to say . . . “I’m in love with a mini-van.”
We recently had a chance to test drive for a week, the new Kia Sedona SXL and few words can explain, so let’s try a couple – wow, awesome, incredible, best mini-van ever, and more. I have heard of others describe the Sedona as “the Mercedes of mini-vans.” I think I may have shed a couple (or a lot) of tears when they came to take it away from me.
So what made the Sedona so amazing for our family? The size and layout is ideal. We are a family of 4 and one big dog and we do a lot of driving around to see family, so the Sedona is a perfect travel car. The ride just feels right. The Sedona offers a perfect combination of comfort and power, and it doesn’t feel like you are driving a mini-van. If he had that chance to ride in one for a couple of minutes, I think the old me from 20 years ago would approve!
Interior – The front seat is very roomy and has a great setup for the driver. Everything is accessible and there is a center console that has plenty of room to keep everything nicely organized.
The 2nd row is what puts the Sedona SXL over the top. The 2nd row has 2 cockpit style seats that come together with a center console that can act as storage or armrest and also flips up to offer a 3rd seat in the middle row. In the SXL model, the 2nd row has what the appropriately call First-Class Lounge Seating which offers seats that recline too. The 2nd row of the Sedona is awesome and I haven’t even started talking about some of the cool techie options available – I’ll get into that in a bit.
The 3rd row of the Sedona offers split seats that fold down and include a smaller 3rd seat in the middle, it is a little tight back there, but this is common, if you are carrying 8 passengers, then one of them better be a kid!
Tech – The SXL version of the Kia Sedona is loaded with all sorts of amazing features. You have the coolest backup camera available, with the Surround View Monitor you get 4 cameras meshed together to show you what appears to be an overhead view – this is so cool and one of my favorite features.
My other favorite techie feature of the SXL was playing “where is the TV” with the kids! I know it sounds funny, but the TV in the Sedona the TV pops up and is hidden and kept safe. It is placed in the rear of the front seat center console and has a remote and wireless headphones to play and listen to your favorite DVDs. In addition to that, there is a regular 3 prong 110v outlet where you can plug in anything else as well. I always have a dream of taking one of these on a long trip and playing video games the entire way while someone else drives.
There are so many features available on the Sedona, and all of them are amazing, even the base models have some awesome features and this is definitely a mini-van that is made to compete with the big boys.

WOW! This looks super nice. I had always wanted a van with having 4 kids but never had one. This would a great one to have.
Looks like a nice car. I would consider buying one
This is a really nice minivan and it really has a pretty color. I always loved silver cars. The Kia is also so roomy and a good van to take on a road trip!
