We are moving! We’ve had our house up for sale for over a year and a half and didn’t think it would ever happen. Then suddenly we got an offer, accepted it, and now moving day is here. We will be moving 3 hours away and it’s been a bit of a frantic last few days. I’ve been able to hold it together thanks to lots of lists and help from wonderful family members. 8 Moving Apps That Will Help You Stay Sane
Moving Planner – This app will help you stay organized and will make sure you don’t lose your head in the chaos that can be moving. With this app you can make various checklists so you don’t miss anything. A master checklist can list everything you need to do before the move and it will show you at what percentage you have it complete. You can also make lists of boxes and what’s in each box, it comes with a pre-populated list of 220 items so it’s easy to check them off and virtually put them in the box. You can also make a helpful to do list of utility transfers. You can arrange it in order of ascending, descending, or manually and can hide your checked items as well. This app can be customized to best fit your needs and keep you on track.
My Move – You can find a great moving checklist in this app as well as tips like empty gas and oil from your lawnmower before you move and close up your safety deposit boxes when transferring bank accounts. You can also find reliable movers and read reviews about them, check their moving license information, and even see the best companies by state.
Groovebook – Before you pack up your old residence, take photos of your place and then download this app. It’s an inexpensive way to make a photobook from your smartphone photos and will be a cherished keepsake when you are in your new place. The photos are even perforated so you can easily share them with family and friends and you can easily send additional photobooks to them as well.
Magic Plan Creator – After the stress of getting all of your things to your new place the last thing you want to do is figure out what goes where. If you are able to take photos of the interior of the residence prior to moving in you can use a bit of your downtown before the move using this app to do a little planning. This app measures rooms and draws your floor plan by taking pictures. You can add objects, annotations, and more to create the map. Then you can figure out from there where you want to place everything.
The Big Moving Adventure – Have kids? As we all know moving can be stressful for little ones. Make moving fun with this moving app by Sesame Street for children ages 2-5. Kids can create their own muppet friend and help him or her through the moving process. The Parents Section includes detailed tips and suggestions on how to tell children you are moving, packing, saying good-bye, traveling, the new house, and making new friends.
NextDoor – Once you move into your new home introduce yourself to your neighbors through the free private social network on the NextDoor app. I use this app now and it’s great for contacting neighbors looking for recommendations for someone to shovel your driveway or mow your lawn, or for a good plumber, electrician etc. You can also list items for sale as well. I’ve also seen neighbors help each other find lost dogs and pets. This will be one of the first apps I’ll be using once we get our moving boxes unpacked. I can’t wait to log on and become a part of the neighborhood!
HomeSavvy – Just tell the app a bit about your home and it will customize your home maintenance schedule, send you alerts when tasks need to be completed, and advise you of seasonal essentials It will also give you diy tips so you can save money and recommend easy preventative strategies to save you time. It will also refer you to prescreened professionals in your area when you need a little extra help.
GrubHub – Let’s face it. On moving day you and your movers (i.e. family and friends) are going to be hungry. Instead of trying to scrounge around at the last minute to get everyone fed use this app to keep everyone happy and your stress level down. GrubHub offers free ordering for delivery or pickup from more than 28,000 restaurants in 600+ cities. You can search by address or location, view menus, decide what you are hungry for, and order. Bon Appetite and congrats you did it!
I’m looking forward to putting these moving apps to use over the next couple of days and as we move into our new home. I’ll be sure to take lots of pics of all the excitement and let you know more about our new place once we are settled in. Wish us luck!
