You’ll Lose the Baby Weight(And Other Lies About Pregnancy and Childbirth) by Dawn Meehan was a hilarious and honest read about the realities of becoming a mother. As I reflected on my own previous pregnancies while reading it, I found myself chuckling and even laughing out loud at her silly but realistic views about doctors, your growing belly, dealing with family, preparing for childbirth, and afterward.
Dawn is a mother of 6 and I can appreciate her wisdom and sense of humor. I don’t want to give too much away, but her editor did a great job because instead of omitting the authors brutally honest and silly tidbits, she “crosses them out” and leaves them in places to literally read between the lines.
One excerpt from the book discusses her embarrassment about undressing and folding clothes in the exam room of the doctor office where she states realistically, “It’s OK for your doctor to see your cervix, but heaven forbid she see your undies!”
This book is the non-medical honest life handbook of things you should know that people don’t tell you while you are pregnant. Even though I am done bearing children, I thought this was a great book. I plan to pass it on to a friend who is fumbling her way through motherhood the way we all do. I know she will appreciate the laughs provided by this book. We all need them every now and then to deal with the trials and tribulations of being moms!!!

So true about folding up your clothes in the exam room!
This would be such a great gift for my friend who is pregnant with her first. She has NO idea what to believe and is so overwhelmed. She’d love it!
Hahaha, I’m totally laughing about the undies thing too because it’s SO true!
I have read a few books of a similar theme “Lies we’re told / things no one tells you” and I think I need to check this one out too!
