I found this on Budget Travel and thought it was so strange that I had to share it! It’s a list of 10 of the weirdest hotels in the world including one called La Villa de Hamster created to make you feel like a hamster. The walls are covered in wrought iron to simulate the feeling of being in a cage and guests can drink water out of a tube in the wall. There is also a fully functioning hamster wheel. If you can believe it, the hotels get stranger.
The guests of the hotel, Can Sleep, sleep in a beer can at night! The cans are grouped together in 6′s to resemble a 6-pack and each one is 12 feet high with a lid that cracks open This hotel is only open one month out to the year. I can’t imagine why.
There is also the Palacio de Sal which is made completely out of salt. The floors, walls, ceilings, chairs, tables, and beds are all salt.
The Hotel Utter Inn looks like a quaint red house in the middle of the lake but is actually the world’s first underwater hotel that began as a art installation. It operates 10 feet underwater has no electricity and only has one room with two twin beds which are surrounded by panoramic windows.
Some of the others on the list include:
- a hotel that offers glass igloos – perfect for watching the aurora borealis
- a hotel made from a jumbo jet, complete with cockpit suite
- wigwams that offer amenities such as wagon-wheel headboards, a/c, a 25 in. tv, free wi-fi
- and more!

Those are some strange hotels. The beer cans are kind of cool, but remind me of camping, lol.
I am sure my boys would love to stay inside the giant hamster cage.
I think I’d like the underwater one…that’s really relaxing!
Ok, that’s just wierd… who would want to sleep in a beer can?
Thanks for sharing. I learned something new today :)
I think the glass igloos or underwater one would be neat. I’m apparently all about the view haha
What great unusual hotels. I’m loving the sound of the glass igloo.
Have you heard of the hotel that is made completely out of ice–it built annually!
Those are some strange hotels! I bet they would make some fun additions to a “bucket list” of places to go and things to do, though. Haha!
I think it would be so cool to stay at one of these, if only for one night. The glass igloo and watching the aurora borealis sounds beautiful.
I love reading about places like this. It is my dream to stay in at least one of them someday!
