You may remember back in November I wrote a review of the Wikets iPhone App. It’s a wonderful app that allows you to connect with your friends and make recommendations of your favorite products and places. You get points for every recommendation you make. On top of that, when other people re-recommend the item, add it to their wish list, or purchase the item you receive even more points.
All these points add up to rewards which can be redeemed for Amazon gift cards.
The app is easy to use and whenever I have a few minutes or discover something new, I’ll open up the app and start sharing away. I smile every time I hear the little ding notifying me that someone acted on my recommendation because it tells me that others are enjoying my recommendations and that I’m earning more points.
I like the idea behind the Wikets app so much that I’m happy to announce that a new version is now available. Wikets App Version 1.1. has added many new features. There is a brand new look, an activity feed, a place to ask for recommendations, and my favorite – categories!

To get started with Wikets first you’ll set up a profile which is simple. After you start following people and making recommendations they will appear in your profile. Here’s a look at mine:
I like the categories feature in the new version because it makes it easier to scroll through your own profile or that of your friends to find what you are looking for. Here’s a look at my Apps category. You can see the apps I’ve recommended displayed nicely.
To find the products and places everyone is talking about, you close your profile and visit the Feed. There is a feed for those you are following and also a “Trending” feed. Below is a look at feed. To protect the privacy of other members, in this shot you’ll see I had just made 4 recommendations in a row so that’s why you only see me listed. Typically a variety of you’re friends or trending recommendations will be seen here.
Next, the Explore area is a great place to discover new recommendations based on your interests. You can use the Search feature where you can simply type in a keyword and applicable recommendations will be displayed.
I typed in “Cleveland” to see what I could find:
I was pleased to see that the Wikets app displayed a number of popular local establishments. As a Cleveland resident, I’m happy with these recommendations and would encourage any out-of-town traveler to put these locations on their itinerary. I’m excited to use this feature on our next vacation, it’s a great way to see what the locals recommend!
Next, you can also Explore by browsing a number of different categories – you can see them listed at the top next to the Search button.
This is very helpful if you looking for something in a specific category. You can browse by:
Apps, Books…
Household Items, Movies & TV…
Music, Places…
This is a great way to browse your friends recommendations and find new apps, books, household items, movies or tv shows, music, or places.
Adding your own recommendations is easy too. You simply click the green “New Rec” button in the middle of the bottom toolbar. Then this screen pops up:
As you can see you can recommend an app, a product, a place and even scan a bar code. I like the new feature in the Wikets 1.1 version that also allows you to ask for recommendations. What a great idea!
If you select “Rec A Product” you will first choose from a wide range of stores from where that product can be found.
After you select your store you simply type in the name of the product and hit “Rec It!” and you’re done. Your recommendation will be shared with your friends.
The bar code scanner is even easier. Once you click “Scan A Barcode” the Wikets app turns on your phone’s camera and then you line up the bar code in between the red lines on the screen. The camera will snap the barcode and the app locates the product. No need to push any buttons. It’s all done for you and it’s fun!
Wikets is also wonderful to use as a Wishlist too. Simply click the yellow star on the bottom toolbar to add an item to your wishlist or open up your Wishlist, search for, categorize, and add an item. So easy and a great way to keep track of gift ideas.

And last but certainly not least is the Rewards. Here’s a look at my Rewards screen.
You can see at the top that I’m well on my way and have been earning lots of points. It also offers a nice break down of how many of my items have been added to my friends wish lists, how many have been re-recommended, how many were bought and how many were liked on Facebook.
I also like the History in the middle of the screen because it tells me what items I’ve earned points for. You can see I have points for making recommendations and then more points for someone re-recommending an app I like.

My very first restaurant recommendation earned me 125 points! That’s great and makes me excited to recommend other places and products so I can earn my Amazon gift card soon.
You’ll also see that I made comments on each of my recommendations. There are provided simple comments that are applied to each recommendation but people are more likely to re-recommend, wishlist, or purchase your recommendation if you don’t use the provided comment and instead let them know why you like an item. This, in the end, earns you more points and you’ll be even closer to your Amazon gift card!
I hope this review and tutorial hae shown how fun and helpful the Wikets app is. I also must mention that you get 200 points simply for signing up!
On top of that, after you have downloaded the app it will ask you for a promo code, enter 2wired2tired and you will receive 200 additional points!
