What Blogging Has Brought Me

Growing up I wanted to be a journalist or an author. I loved being an English major in college until a jaded professor made some nasty comments that stuck with me and damaged my confidence enough that I stopped writing for many years. After having kids and becoming a stay-at-home mom, I picked up writing again. Very cautiously and only here and there. Then for some reason I started a blog. I began by just sticking a toe in and wrote only for myself and my family –  simply recording the week’s events. Then I started writing a bit more frequently and suddenly I had a follower and then another. The followers started leaving comments and I began visiting their blogs, commenting, and making connections. A couple of months passed and I was hooked, I decided it was time to dive in head first.

In just a little over a year blogging, I’ve had the opportunity to interact with bloggers all over the world and they have all taught me fascinating things. For example, I’ve learned what it’s like to be an Army Wife raising three kids while trying to finish school. I’ve learned how to make pierogies (which makes my husband very happy!). I’ve learned that in Dubai they take 50 day vacations and that they have Night Markets in Malaysia.

Not only have I traveled the world from the comfort of my computer chair, but my writing has picked up again. I write a blog post every single day. Some days I just don’t feel like writing, but once my fingers hit the keyboard the words pour out. Whether it’s a book review or a tribute to a beloved pet, I do my best to write well and with heart.

Little did I know what all this writing and blogging would bring me. Recently I was asked to write an article for NewParent.com about raising 2 children under the age of 2. It was just published and I’m so excited about it. Also, I have another blog, Westside Cleveland Mom, where I write about family friendly events in the Cleveland area and it was just selected as the Featured Blog across all of Cleveland.com.

When I started blogging I had no idea about the opportunities and doors it would open for me. I had no idea I would ever have more than 2 followers. I had no idea that I would actually connect with other mom bloggers and even get a chance to meet them in real life. And most surprising of all, I had no idea it would allow me to throughly enjoy writing again. It all makes me so glad I took the plunge.

Congratulations on your blog. You do such a good job. I’m pleased to hear that you are writing again. It is so wrong to discourage people not to do something that they want to do. I so wish people wouldn’t do that. It’s been done to me.
