As a high-tech family we often find ourselves using multiple devices at once that all rely on our wireless connection. Dave will be on the iPad while I’m on the desktop and we’ll both also have our smartphones at the ready in case we need to open any apps or send out a text message.
With Kora & Logan only being 6- and 5- years old their “need” to have a wireless connection is minimal right now. On occasion they will play a game on the iPad or on one of our phones but I know that will be changing in just a few short years. Soon we will all be connected and fighting for wireless connectivity.
That’s why I was excited to attend a webinar the other day to learn about some HD streaming video stats and the new Western Digital Wireless Home Networking Products .
Here are a few of the video streaming stats I was amazed to learn:
- 147.4 million people watch video on the internet
- 33% of broadband households watch Internet video on their tv
- The average American watches 5 hours of video a day
- 23.4 million Netflix subscribers streamed 2 billion hours in Q4 2011
Western Digital is the world’s leader in external storage solutions and today they are unveiling their new wireless home networking products. Western Digital has created the industry’s only My Net HD Dual-Band Wireless Routers with features that include:
- HD quality
- Seamless streaming
- Instant detection of all entertainment traffic auto prioritizes time sensitive sessions
- Loading in half the time
- Prevention of the degradation of HD video quality
- Delivers instantaneous entertainment
- Significantly less flickering, fuzziness and buffering
- Not tied to a PC
- Guest access
- Easy streamlined, secure set-up
All WD routers will have Fas Track Technology and Fas Track Plus is available as well which helps eliminate the problems with media streaming. This technology makes it easy to connect Smart TV’s and to extend streaming into family common areas. Fas Track offers 21 open ques for service applications and Fast Track Plus offers unlimited open ques.
I also like that there are parental controls with web filtering available on all routers. The parental controls can be set per device as well and even on a set schedule. For example, you can have the parental controls turned off while the kids are at school and then you can set the router to turn the controls on every weekday at 4 pm.
Western Digital also offers the My Book Live Personal Cloud Storage. The Personal Cloud allows you to access your content anytime, anywhere. It offers an automatic backup of network devices.
The WD TV Media Players also have a lot to offer. The players allow you to watch over 300,000 hit streaming movies and TV shows, as well as watch your own videos, view your photos, and listen to music. They play virtually any media file format and have built in Wi-Fi.
I’m impressed by everything the Western Digital Wireless Home Networking Products have to offer. I think they have opened the door to a whole new world of wireless access and router usage.
