We are a family of 4, which gives us plenty of options when it comes to buying a car. My heart still goes out to the families that have 6 or more members.. How do you go anywhere on a family trip if you have a sedan or a small to mid SUV like most of America. Imagine just wanting to go out to eat and you have to load up and take 2 cars to the restaurant?
Now there are plenty of options with a 3rd row, and prices on these larger SUVs started off high and many models have come down and are competitively priced. We just had an opportunity to test drive for week the Kia Sorento SX and were impressed by all of it’s family friendly features.
I talk to a lot of people, and Kia as a brand still doesn’t get the overall respect it should, but if they keep coming out with cars like the new Sorento, the opinion will continue to turn in the right direction.
The 2016 Kia Sorento SX is a sharp looking SUV. I love the refreshments they have done to it over the last couple of years, and for 2016 they made the Sorento even bigger – extending it 3”. This puts the Sorento definitively up against some of the larger SUVs after being kind of stuck in between the smaller and midsize SUVs in previous years.
My first reaction upon hopping into the Sorento SX, was . . . “wow, this is classy and bigger than I remember.” The higher-end versions of the Sorento are very nice cars, the brand has come a long way over the years and I would have no problem comparing SX to any mid-size SUV out on the market.
Driving the Sorento SX is also a treat. The SX has a ton of power thanks to its 3.3 liter 290 HP V6 engine. Pickup is incredible and was very surprising for a SUV. This Sorento handles great and it didn’t feel like you were driving an SUV.
As for the interior of the Sorento SX, it is very roomy up front, the 2nd row has plenty of room for an adult to ride comfortably, and like most SUVs in this class, the 3rd row is a bit cramped, but it is an awesome option to have. When the 3rd row is flat, there is a ton of storage space, which is perfect for road trips or for the family dog. Overall, the interior is laid out quite well, and the interior matches up with what I said about the exterior, I would absolutely say the interior compares nicely to the competition.
Safety is something that Kia has always taken seriously, and the Sorento’s loaded with features, and the steps Kia takes for safety with the Sorento are spread across the board. All the safety features that are available on the highest end Sorento are available on the base Sorento – at Kia – safety is standard.
The Sorento SX is all tech’d up too. The screen is huge and I love how crisp the rearview camera is on Kia’s cars. One of my favorite features is that the Sorento SX comes with a 110 outlet in the back of the front row console, this is an awesome feature for road trips or for those who spend a lot of time in their car for work.
The Kia Sorento we experienced was the SX model, it starts at over 38k and our model was pretty loaded and the sticker was about 44k. One great thing about the Sorento line is that you can get the base model at an amazing price. Right around 25k will get you into a Sorento, this price point smashes the competition price-wise. If you are in the market for a 3 row SUV like a larger family needs, or if you are just looking to get a great SUV at an even better price, you need to check out the 2016 Kia Sorento.
We had a great experience in the Sorento SX and one last feature which was perfect for the time we had the car was the HUGE panoramic roof which is incredible normally, but even better for fireworks! How would you use the panoramic roof and other cool features of the Kia Sorento?
