Did you know that according to a Consumer Reports Safety Commission publication, once a month a child between 7 months and 10 years dies from window cord strangulation and another child suffers near strangulation?
This is a frightening statistic and even though we’ve always been vigilant about child-proofing our house to insure the safest environment for Kora & Logan to grow-up in, one of my biggest fears/challenges however, has been our blind cords.
We have a few windows with blinds and they have the typical cords that hang down just enticing a toddler or preschooler to play with them. We always make the effort to place the cord up over the window molding or somewhere high so the kids couldn’t reach it.
At the same time, I know that Kora & Logan are both little monkeys and also very resourceful. If there’s something they want that’s placed up high, they could figure out a way to get to it – not that we give them the opportunity but if it was there they’d take it.
Therefore when we were contacted by Kenney Manufacturing about a chance to review their Truly CordFree Roman Shade, we jumped at the chance.
Kenney Manufacturing created this Roman Shade in response to the increased demand for safer window coverings.
We chose the Thermal Blackout Fabric in Chocolate for the kids’ room.
Tired Dad Dave did the installation and said it was pretty easy – no real tricky parts or difficulties. I think it looks great, it’s a nice color that accents the room well and the fabric is soft and thick which will help keep out light, noise, and the cool air this winter.
The wand is really simple to use. A twist of the wrist and the shade starts folding upwards and then you secure the wand into the holder on the side of the frame and the shade is held in place.
I’m really thrilled with the this shade because I will breathe a little easier when the kids run to their room to get something or stop there to play for a bit. I also think the shade is great because not only does it do all of the above but also the fabric panels are removable for easy cleaning and allergen reduction.
If you are shopping for window treatments and have little ones, I definitely recommend taking a look at the Kenney Manufacturing Truly Cordfree Roman Shade.
Thank you to Kenney Manufacturing for providing the shade for review. No compensation was received. The opinions are mine and that of my family’s.

I really like these blinds. I am going to have to look into these. I have blinds with the wands but they have no place to secure them and they can come off the blind kind of easily. Which is no good because the kids like to pretend their swords.
That looks really nice! We need some new shades at our house.
my parents finally got cord-free shades in their house…once all their children were above the age of 9 :) but still, better late than never! and i would love to put these in my home. great post!
Very interesting input. :)
