I’m training for the 3 Day For The Cure and have 5 weeks to go. Wow! Time flies! I’m excited to be selected by Energizer as their Cleveland Keep Going Blogger. They are providing the participation fee and I’m sharing my experiences preparing for, training, for an walk in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day For The Cure.
Since starting to train for this event, I’ve been incredibly diligent and have followed the training schedule in the walker’s handbook to a “t.” I even had my weeks mixed up at one point and walked a big mileage weekend before I was supposed to. I was proud that I did it, but because I kind of jumped into it it was tough.
The nice thing is because of that big mileage weekend, all of the other walks seem so short! If I’m supposed to walk for an hour or even two, it almost seems like no big deal.
However, even though an hour or two of walking flies by for me now in all honesty these past couple of days, I’ve hit a bit of a training slump. I am still very active, but have been finding it tough to fit it all in.
It’s all a matter of doing what I can when it gets busy. I’ve cut down a few walks here and there, but I’m still walking. Today is actually only my second day unofficial day off since I started training all thanks to them minor blog blow-up I had this morning.
After this week some outside things will settle down and I will really focus on training. In the meantime, I think it’s all about being flexible and adaptable and fitting the walking in as often as I can.
What do you think? When your daily life becomes busy how do you fit in exercise? Do you let it take a back seat for awhile or do you approach it in another way?
I have been allowing myself to slump on my exercise but I will start it back up soon. Good luck with your training and during the 3 Day weekend!
This was the first week that I really fell off too. In order to get all my miles, I needed everything to work out just right in the rest of my life. And as everyone knows, things never work out exactly as planned. Work took longer than it should. I had a surprise meeting thrown in on Thursday. The dog I watching for a friend tried to destroy my house which took 2 and 1/2 hours to clean. My mom called on Friday and we talked for way longer than intended because we hadn’t chatted in a while. Stuff comes up and unfortunately, training sometimes takes a back seat.
My feeling is that my diligence up to this point earned me an easier week this week. Going forward, though, I need to recognize that I need to schedule in some “gray” time to take of that stuff that just “comes up” without it screwing everything else up!
Good luck with your last few weeks of training!
Kristen
I’ve been feeling that way too! It’s supposed to be super hot here this weekend, but I’m going to push myself to get in a lot of walking!
I’ve got one extra week for my walk than you do, but I’m getting super excited!
The only way I can do it is immediately when I wake up in the morning!
