All right. I admit it. I’m terrible at portion control. For whatever reason, I find it too much work to reach into the kitchen drawers to pull-out the measuring cups prior to pouring a bowl of cereal or scooping out a dish of ice cream. I know that’s just me being lazy and if I was serious about eating the proper portions I would take the extra effort to measure everything out before I eat it.
Thankfully one day I was browsing blogs and the power of the internet landed me on the site of the Measure Up Bowl. It’s a bowl that takes the extra effort out of portion control.
The inside of the bowls are clearly marked with measurements so it’s “Portion Control in a Bowl.”
See how the measurements are labeled inside the bowl? Pretty neat, huh? Here I measured out a 1/4 a cup of bread crumbs for a meal I was making. The bowls make pre-measuring ingredients a snap too.
Thanks to the Measure Up Bowl, I learned that every morning for breakfast, I eat 1/2 a cup of cereal more than I should.
Here’s the amount of cereal I eat every morning:
Here’s the amount I should be eating – the contents of the closet bowl. I’m 1/2 cup over every day.
Now, no judging. I don’t normally eat Chocolate Chex for breakfast but I will snack on them sometimes later in the day. The contrast they offered made for a good picture….I’m serious!
I’m a huge fan of pasta. I know I eat waaay more than I should when I have it, so I’ve actually cut it out from my diet lately. However, thanks to the Measure Up Bowl, I can enjoy pasta in an appropriate amount.
This is 1 cup of pasta:
This is that same 1 cup of pasta in one of our every day bowls. It’s still a good amount and now I can enjoy pasta again without the guilt.
Not only am I learning better portion control, but I think the Measure Up Bowl is a great tool to introduce Kora & Logan to. I can’t imagine growing up in today’s world where restaurants are serving portions at 3 times the amount of what we should be eating. If my portion sizes are skewed now, I can’t imagine what theirs will be.
Thanks to the Measure Up Bowl we can supply them with the knowledge of what a serving size should look like and it will aid them in making healthy choices for life.
Thank you to the Measure Up Bowl for providing the bowls for review. No compensation was received.

OMG! I think I need that bowl! I’m serious. That looks perfect. I hate measuring, and I know I go overboard. And I *skim* off the top and think I’ve fixed it a bit. Ah, very cool. Seeing it all shows how much more we eat than the actual serving size, doesn’t it? :[ Sometimes you just gotta munch, and I could NEVER give up pasta, but at least I’d know how much I was actually eating! Cool review!
How cool are these bowls? Wonderful. I think these looks great too. That’s for sharing.
I always overeat on two things: cereal and ice cream! This bowl will really help me out. Unless I don’t want it to LOL
thanks!
I am loving this idea! Now there is no excuse to over portion…
