Teach My Preschooler – Review

This will be Kora’s last year of preschool. I can’t believe next year she will be in Kindergarten! As they say time flies…

We’ve been working on kindergarten readiness and have been practicing with a few flash cards here and there and working on some easy addition and she catches on pretty quickly, however I often find myself wishing we had more time to spend on these things. So when I came across Teach My Preschooler I knew it would be perfect for her.

Teach My Preschooler is a Dr. Toy award winning kit that helps prepare children for kindergarten and encourages reading in a fun way. The program only takes about 20 minutes a day to open the door to early reading, writing, and math.

The kit comes with four envelopes stocked full of fantastic learning materials including: Ready to Read, Ready to Print, Ready for 1-100, and Ready for Math.

When we received the kit the kids were excited right away to try it out. The first thing we did was the math section which involves such an innovative and creative way to teach addition and subtraction we were all enthralled.

There’s a big poster with a picture of a playground on each side. One side has swings for subtraction and the other two slides and sandpits for addition.

Kora & Logan love the slide side best right now and are having a blast learning to add. They match up cute characters to their pictures on either side of an addition symbol. Once they add up the characters on both sides, they take them down the slides and into the answer sand pit.

Here’s a video to explain a bit better:

I’m extremely impressed with the Learn to Read section. It’s helped Kora tremendously. This section includes 10 books at various level with flash cards. Every time we read the books Kora and do the flash cards is so excited about it and just recently she started sounding out words and making connections.

I was thrilled to get it on video!

The section teaching Ready to Print is so fun too! The kids lay a transparency with various letters over a provided magna-doodle and trace letters. When they remove the transparency the letters they drew remain behind. The transparencies come in a variety of sizes. There are sheets with multiple letters and smaller sheets with a single upper or lower case letter which you can place side-by-side to form short words. Kora & Logan love this!

The fourth section is Learn to Count 1-100 and comes with a book, a poster, foam numbers, and number cards. You can match up the foam numbers to the numbers in the book and you can hang the poster for daily practice. Kora & Logan’s favorite part though is the number cards. They are made to look like a train with the first car being the engine and each number from 1 -100 is a train car. The kids had a blast one day laying the cards all over the dining room floor making a gigantic train!

I can’t say enough about Teach My Preschooler. I love it, Tired Dad Dave loves it, and Kora and Logan love it and look forward to it every day.

If you don’t have a preschooler yet, but are interested in this kit there are two others available as well – Teach My Baby and Teach My Toddler. I really wish I had known about them when the kids were younger because I think they would have enjoyed the kits and learned a lot from them.

We give Teach My Preschooler two Big Thumbs up and recommend this product for that preschooler in your life this holiday season!
