Steri-Bottle – Review

Baby BottleSteri-Bottle is the exciting single-use feeding bottle that’s ready to use out of the box and 100% recyclable. With a choice of 5 or 10 bottles and nipples per box and Steri-Bottle is made of a safe Bisphenol-A (BPA) and phthalate free plastic. Convenient anytime, at home or on the move, there is literally nothing like it for taking the time and stress out of bottle-preparation and giving you an extra bit of your life back…

We received a 5 pack box of Medium flow and a 5 pack of Fast flow bottles. The Medium flow bottles are recommended for babies 0-3 months and the fast flow are for babies over 3 months old.

The bottles come wrapped separately in a plastic resealable bag and the nipples and caps are in their own bag.

Baby Bottle

I had a rather busy out of the house all day with the girls day this weekend so I thought that would be the perfect time to give our Steri-Bottle a try. Typically for a day out and about I fill up a bottle with the amount of water I need and take a container with premeasured amounts of formula. I don’t like to pre-mix the formula in case Emma doesn’t need a bottle while we are out as formula money doesn’t grow on trees (at least not at our house!). I filled up the Steri-bottle with water, snapped the covered nipple on and off we went.

When it was time to make the bottle it took Superman strength to get the top off the bottle but I managed to finally get it apart and the formula dumped in. Then I shook the bottle like always. And then the formula was all over me, Emma, and the car seat. The bottle leaked like crazy when I shook it but only leaked a little while Emma was drinking but it was nothing a burp cloth couldn’t handle for her. She also had no problem with the nipple being different than her “usual” bottle.

After looking at the FAQ section on the Steri-Bottle website, it looked like my problem with the bottle leaking was user error, not a design flaw. From the website it says that the bottles are designed to be “locked” once and not opened back up. I tried another bottle – this time adding the formula and water at the same time, not reopening the bottle and it didn’t leak. While this isn’t how I usually like to prepare my bottles it was better than a mess! If the nipples screwed onto the bottle like regular bottles do that would be fantastic!

Overall, the Steri-Bottle is a great concept, just not for our everyday use. These bottles would be great to keep in the car for those “whoops I ran out without a full diaper bag” days or even in a family emergency preparedness kit so baby feeding supplies are ready without tying up a everyday use bottle.

Thank you to Steri-Bottle for providing the product for review. No compensation was received. The opinions are my own.

Interesting. I have never heard of these. They would be great in a pinch, but since as my 5 month old son refuses to take a bottle, not sure if I will be using the 12 new bottles I have in my pantry, but I will keep these in mind for others.
