Simple Food For Busy Families – Book Review

Last week a new book, Simple Food for Busy Families by Jeannette Bessinger and Tracee Yablon-Brenner, arrived in the mail for me to read.

I was excited to get some new recipes and read about the prospects of improving the nutritional content of our daily meals. The book had a lot of interesting information about eating balanced meals and including more whole grains in our diets. It talked about the trials of being a busy mom yet still providing well-balanced meals for our children.

It described the Standard American Diet (SAD) and provided disturbing and appalling facts about the long-term affects that the poor dietary choices we make today will negatively affect us tomorrow.

While this did motivate me to make healthier choices for my family, I actually felt more guilty for not being able to cook more healthy food for my family daily. The books content was informative, but I have to say that because of the lack of recipes, it was not what I was expecting.

To me, the most beneficial thing in the book is a few charts in the back that show formulas for making your own quiche, sandwiches, soups, salads, and salad dressings. I made a quiche the day after reading it and was pleased that the kids cleaned their plates!

If you are looking for a book to help make better informed decision about healthy eating and making more nutritional families for your family, Simple Food for Busy Families, just might be what you are looking for.

The book was provided for review. No compensation was received. The opinions are mine.

It sounds like a great gift idea too!

Sounds like a great book. It’s hard cooking healthy but even small substitutions help.

The book had a lot of information about cooking with whole grains and I am going to try them! It is so easy to get into a rut with the “standard” dinner ideas! New whole grains might help mix it up a little while being healthy!
