Sunny Day, Sweepin’ the clouds away, On my way to where the air is sweet, Can you tell me how to get, How to get to Sesame Street?
I grew up watching Sesame Street (back in the days before Elmo). Grover taught me how to count in Spanish, Big Bird taught me colors, and Oscar taught me how to be a grouch. Sesame Street has been such a big part of my life and I’m so happy that it is still around for my girls to learn the same lessons from the same characters I did. Sure, it’s not quite the same, a bit flashier, more friends on the Street but still good old Sesame Street.
Sesame Street has branched out into the world of Video USB. The USB drive is housed in a rubber character of Big Bird, Abby, Elmo, Ernie, Grover or Cookie Monster and offers a full-length video as well as storage space that can hold up to 400 photos, 400 songs or a virtually unlimited amount of written content.
The best part – a child cannot accidentally erase or remove the video! The character drives are waterproof, dustproof and drop proof with a special “wearable” connector strap ensures that both parts of the character stay together. I don’t know about you but it seems like I’m always searching for the cap to my USB drives. Too bad grown-up ones don’t have straps to keep the parts together.
Mackenzie was excited to receive the Cookie Monster USB. I popped it into my laptop and magically a menu came up right away. It had options to watch the video, go to your stored files or click directly to the Sesame Street website (if connected to the internet). I loved that there was no fiddling around with finding the right folder to open as Mackenzie was bouncing next to me impatiently waiting for the video to start. The video, Cookie’s Best Bites, lasted about 45 minutes and kept her attention the whole time. After the video was over, she clicked on the website link and checked out all the fun games, songs and videos the Sesame Street website had to offer.
This is a great “secret weapon” to take along while traveling. I’ve spent enough time in hotels with the family and no children’s channels on the hotel cable line-up to learn to travel with the portable DVD player so Mackenzie has something to hold her attention while the grown-ups are doing other things, like showering or loading the car. She also enjoys having dance parties so I’m planning on putting some of her favorite songs on the USB drive as well. This is a really cute idea and a great product to keep handy for a few minutes of entertainment. Cookie Monster will be spending lots of time in hotels with us this upcoming holiday season for sure.
The product was provided for review. No compensation was received. The opinions are mine and that of my family.
