Kora and Logan adore Sesame Street. Last night we had a chance to go see Sesame Street Live – Elmo’s Green Thumb in Cleveland. When the kids found out they were going to see their favorite Sesame Street characters singing and dancing, they could barely sit through dinner. In fact, it was possibly the fastest dinner I’ve ever seen them eat!
We arrived at The State Theater just as the show was about to start. Although we hurried through the lobby, I l took a minute to soak in the beauty of the theater, it really is gorgeous. I also was impressed that, unlike some of the other kids shows we’ve attended at bigger arenas, we didn’t have to maneuver through an obstacle course of over-priced flashing, blinking, and spinning toys. There was a table or two offering these items that were nicely displayed and also a selection of adorable Sesame Street t-shirts and smiling Elmo balloons that were appropriate for the atmosphere.
We quickly found our seats and the show started within a minute or two. The kids were so excited to see each and every character. Kora yelled, “Look, mom!” every time someone new walked on stage. She clapped after every song and had a smile on her face up to intermission. The show was very cute, lots of singing and dancing and even had a delightful story line which involved some of the characters shrinking to the size of ants due to an errant spell by, who else but, Abby Cadabby. There was even a rendition of Ladybug Picnic, which made me smile because it was one of my favorites when I use to watch Sesame Street way back when. The show not only entertained, but also tried to deliver a message about being eco-conscious. I always think it’s great to mix a little education in with lots of fun, you never know what kids will pick up and carry with them throughout their lives so why not make it a positive message wrapped in a fun and catchy tune?
Kora and Logan enjoyed Sesame Street Live immensely and I was very grateful that we had the chance to go. Here’s a few photos from the show:
Another Sesame Street Live show will be touring our area in March. When Elmo Grows Up takes the audience on a magical show-and-tell as Elmo and his friends imagine what it’s like to grow up. Bert wants to be a forest ranger while Telly wants to be a cowboy. Abby dreams of being a fairy godmother, of course and Elmo thinks about being a weather monster. The show teaches children about perserverance, teamwork, and the power of the imagination.
