Seagate Free Agent Go Ultra Portable Drive

Another review from Tired “Tech” Dad Dave!

I’ll admit, I’m an electronics junkie. I enjoy gadgets, gizmos, and new technology.  So it drives me crazy how slow our desktop runs sometimes. I know it’s because it’s 6 years old, but I also think it’s because it’s stuffed full of music, pictures, and videos.

I’ve been thinking about getting an external hard drive to free up some space in hopes it will run faster. However, I have been delaying a bit because I wasn’t sure what exactly I wanted or what brand to get. So it was perfect timing when Seagate sent over the Free Agent Go Ultra-Portable Hard Drive for review.

I was excited to see that our Free Agent Go had 500 GB. That’s huge! Not only was I impressed by the internal storage capacity but I was amazed at how tiny the drive is itself – it’s just a little bit bigger than my iPhone. The accompanying paperwork informed me that it is the world’s thinnest portable drive.

The FreeAgent Go was so easy to use as well. I pulled it out of the box, connected the USB cord, and followed the simple instructions from the software installer.

After set-up I moved all of our music, pictures, and videos onto the FreeAgent Go. It was really simple to do and almost immediately I noticed a difference in the speed of our desktop. It was responding much faster than it had in years.

Another advantage of the FreeAgent Go is our media has become portable. Tired Mom Tésa can connect the drive to her netbook and can utilize any of the images, movies, or music there. We can also take the drive with us when visiting grandparents who can never get enough of seeing Kora & Logan. After a simple install we could show them the latest pictures and videos of their grandkids.

Other aspects of FreeAgent Go include:

  • Automatic backup software
  • Encryption technology
  • File synchronization capabilities which ensure you always have your most current versions
  • Environmentally smart power management features which save energy
  • Available in a range of storage space from 250 GB to 1 TB
  • 5-year limited warranty

If you’re in the market for an external hard drive, I recommend Seagate’s FreeAgent Go. It’s simple to use, gives me confidence that our files, pictures, videos, and music are backed up, and it’s sleek and portable too.

Thank you to Seagate for providing the FreeAgent Go for review. No compensation was received for this review.
