Save With Walgreens Prescription Savings Club

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

You may remember reading my recent winter break posts about Kora coming down with tonsillitis and a suspected case of strep throat and Logan’s ear infection. Thankfully we were able to get them a prescription of penicillin from the doctor and they both recovered in just a few days. Kora had been pretty sick though and it was not a fun way to spend winter break.

I’ve been happy to see them both better and then yesterday I walked into Logan’s school and see a big note about a case of strep throat being reported in his class. It could be a long winter!

With two school-age children we know that they will be bringing home cold, flu, and other bugs. And unfortunately prescriptions are pretty expensive.

That’s why when I heard about the dispute between Walgreens and Express Script I was a bit worried. It turns out that for the past year Walgreens has negotiated with Express Scripts for a new contract. The negotiations were unsuccessful and the contract expired on December 31st, which means Walgreens is no longer a part of the Express Scripts network.

This situation could cause pharmacy patients to change pharmacists and be forced to use out-of-the-way pharmacies with limited store hours and no drive-thru options.

This affects only patients with certain prescription plans managed Express Scripts. To find out if you are impacted you can contact your local Walgreens pharmacist or you can check the back of your prescription insurance card to see if Express Scripts is listed on the back of the card.

Walgreens realizes the termination of the contract may cause disruption in the lives of their pharmacy patients and to help with that they are now offering a discount on memberships to the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club.

In the month of January, an individual can join for only $5 and a family membership is just $10. A family membership includes dependents 22 and younger, a spouse, and even pets!

Dave and I were just discussing how nice it would have been to be a member of the club a couple of years back when our then aging dog was on a number of different medications. It became quiet pricey, so to see that Walgreens club includes pets in the membership is wonderful!

Other benefits of the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club include savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications as well as discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers, and diabetic supplies. On top of that you get bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services.

I also like that joining the club is risk free too. If you don’t save more than the cost of your membership during the course of the year of your membership they will refund the difference. You can’t beat that!

The Walgreens Prescription Savings Club is normally $20 for an individual and $35 for a family so this is quite a savings. Since I know the strep throat bug is bound to hit our house again this winter, I’m looking forward to taking advantage of the savings the club offers and signing up before January 31st!
