Whenever my parents come down to Cleveland to visit us in the summer, they are always astounded by the absence of mosquitoes. It never really hit me until we were at a Cleveland Indians game one day, years ago and I heard another couple from out-of-town make the same comment.
However where we lack mosquitoes, my parents make up for them. At their home in Michigan, they have a really nice deck with a gorgeous and large backyard. At the end of their yard, instead of backside neighbors, they have woods. As you can probably guess, their mosquito problem is atrocious because of this wooded area.
So when ThermaCELL contacted me about reviewing their Patio Lantern, my first thought was to turn it down because we don’t have a mosquito problem. Then I remembered that we were heading to my parents’ house for a visit and what a wonderful opportunity it would be to test it out there.
We received the lantern and it was very classy looking.
The information provided stated that “ThermaCELL lanterns and handheld devices are 98% effective in mosquito repellents…ThermaCELL is powered by a butane cartridge which provides the cordless, portable heat to operate the device. A mat saturated with allethrin, a copy of a natural insecticide found in chrysanthemum flowers, is heated by the butane cartridge and vaporizes the repellent allowing it to rise into the air, creating a 15 x 15 ft (225 sq ft) Mosquito-Free-Zone.”
I was excited to try out the Patio Lantern while sitting around the firepit at my parents’ house. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate and we didn’t get the chance to do so at that time. However, since that time my parents have used the lantern and have said it was very easy to put together and works well. In fact, just yesterday they took it to the fireworks with them to ensure they could watch the fireworks in comfort. They were happy to report they returned home with not one mosquito bite.
I’ve also read reviews from other bloggers who agree that the ThermaCELL Patio Lantern works wonderfully. You can read these reviews at Shop With Me Mama (who is also hosting a giveaway) and The Mom Buzz.
ThermaCell Lanterns can be purchased at Home Depot as well as other outdoor and specialty stores. Be sure to visit the ThermaCELL site to enter their June Lantern a Day Giveaway.
Thanks to ThermaCELL for providing the Lantern for review. No compensation was provided. Please stay tuned for an update to this review.

The lantern is actually quite good looking too!
Oooh, I’ll be looking for this…I’m allergic to mosquito bites and apparently our new yard is full of them…I’ve been puffed up like the Michelin man for the last two days!
Oh my gosh–it actually works! I want to try this next summer!
