When I saw that Perdue had some new products, I thought that I would like to have the chance to try them. In my house we are often putting together a fast meal and when it can be somewhat nutritious that is a good thing. There were 2 new products we were able to sample.
The first one my family tried was Baked, Whole Grain Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets. The package stated they were “nugget shaped breast patties with rib meat” “40% less fat than USDA Data for Breaded Fried Boneless Chicken,” and “Made with White Meat Chicken NO Fillers.” Okay, that all sounds fine.A serving size was 4 nuggets with 7 grams of fat per serving.
The nuggets baked just like you would for any other chicken nuggets. Mitchell, my 4 year old son, said the nuggets were “so yummy.” He had six.
Camryn, who is 21 months and sometimes can be picky, had her share as well.
That left 4 each for my husband and I to try. I thought they were pretty good too. I liked the flavor and the texture was good. If I compared them with other similar products we’ve had in the past, I would say they were just as good, if not better, because I thought the texture of the chicken seemed less processed than some other products.
The second product we tried was Perdue Short Cuts Carved Chicken Breast in the flavor Roasted Garlic with White Wine. It was flavored and fully cooked chicken breast sliced to use on a salad, in a wrap, on a pizza, in a fajita, or even just by itself. The nutrition facts let me know a serving was ½ cup and that had 2.5 grams of fat, 450 mg of sodium, and 19 grams of protein.
The high sodium makes it something I would not want to use all the time, but it was definitely nice to have it in the freezer and pull it out for a fast meal when I didn’t have anything else planned.
We tried a recipe from the back of the package since I didn’t have any of my own ideas on what to do with the chicken. The recipe we used was for white pizza. We used a prepared pizza crust, Alfredo sauce, vegetables, cheese, and, of course, the chicken.
I would not exactly call it healthy (secondary to the Alfredo sauce and the cheese), but it was delicious. The chicken was precooked so we just had to put it on the pizza and bake it until the cheese was melted-simple.
The flavor of the chicken was fantastic!
It was real chicken and the texture of it was tender and like it would be from chicken I made myself. My husband and I enjoyed this one. My kids, on the other hand, ate the pizza a little and probably would have eaten more of the chicken if it had not actually been on the pizza-chicken on a pizza is not something we usually do at my house and they don’t always do well with new foods.
Since we made the pizza, we actually had leftover chicken (the package was resealable so it was easy to save the extra) and Scott, my husband, had some pasta with chicken and leftover Alfredo sauce the next day and he said it was really good.
If you are looking for a way to make a fast meal and provide your family with a good source of protein, these Perdue products provide that option. They were easy to prepare and tasted good for my family.
Also, I wanted to point out the Perdue Recipe Dedication program. Through November 30, you can submit a recipe to an online recipe book at www.perdue.com/recipededication. If you choose, you can dedicate your submission to a loved one that has been touched by breast cancer.
For every recipe uploaded to www.perdue.com®, Perdue will donate $1.00 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® with a maximum of $10,000.
The Recipe Dedication Program is in addition to Perdue Farm’s 2010 donation of $150,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Over the last two years, Perdue Farms, has donated a total of $275,000 to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
Isn’t that wonderful?!
Thank you to Perdue for providing the products for review. No compensation was received. The opinions are my own and that of my family.

Thank you for the review that sounds very fair and honest. I appreciate that and will look for the carved chicken breast in the market.
That is so cute! Love it!
