Recently I had the opportunity to review the book, My Life I Make – Revisited by Lauris Faith. It’s a small motivational book that showcases the author’s spiritual reflections on Reggae lyrics.
This little book is very inspiring. In just the preface, Lauris Faith says:
“This book is aimed primarily at those who are unsure of how they feel about themselves and feel helpless about how their life is going. If we take responsibility for the life we have, we feel we can influence its direction. If we believe the responsibility is someone else’s, we will be powerless to change it. It is my hope that this book will encourage you to initiate the changes needed to bring your life into balance. You are the lead musician in the orchestra that bring harmony or disharmony to your life.”
My Life I Make features 65 reggae lyrics from various artists and Lauris Faith comments on what each lyric means to her and how these thoughts can illuminate her readers’ lives. You can see by her writing above that the author is very direct and makes insightful, thought-provoking points and which carry consistently throughout the book.
The book was written because of an estrangement she suffered with her son. They are now happily reunited and have become closer through their love of reggae music. Lauris Faith wants others to learn from her experience. She says, “We take our chances in life and we live with the results of the decisions we make. Life owes us nothing – it is up to us to do the best we can with whatever gifts or trials life puts in our path. We need to be grateful for whatever we have.”
I couldn’t agree more and give this book:
2 Thumbs Up
Are there music lyrics out there that have touched you in some way?
I love Natasha Beddingfield’s Unwritten.
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
