I say this as a husband and dad, and I even think I am a pretty good one. Still I am clueless at times. It seems that guys just don’t have it in their natural DNA to plan things out and remember to put together great gift ideas for the mother of their children.

It even took me a couple of Mother’s Days to realize that my children at ages 3 and 2 are unable to go shopping on their own to get a Mother’s Day card for their Mommy!
I figured if I wrote this post, I may be able to help some husbands with some last minute ideas that are still top shelf for the mother of their children. I also figured that you moms out there could pass this along to your husbands to help them out too!
Here are some quick ideas so you don’t have to run to the local drug store on Sunday morning for a card and a gift.
Starbucks Gift Card
Nearly all moms need assistance from a nice cup of joe every now and then. Starbucks (or your coffee shop of choice) also has some fancy drinks that many people feel guilty spending real money on. With a gift card mom will gladly indulge an order an extra large chocolatey something. She will especially enjoy it if she gets some alone time to enjoy it too. These can also be ordered at the very last minute and printed out or shared digitally.
Magazine subscriptions
Moms love to have some alone time to read. Team up with the kids to get her a magazine subscription. They are super simple to order, you can even get them on Amazon. Bonus – they can be ordered online – even minutes before you give Mom her gifts – a truly last minute & thoughtful gift!
Cards
When kids are young, moms love to get things that were handmade by the kids. This is a good opportunity for dads to hang out with the kids, get them the supplies and point them in the right direction. The cards don’t have to be perfect, mom will love them regardless! Since guys are clueless, here is a link to offer some inspiration.
Flowers in the garden
Most women love flowers, but sadly they only have a limited time they are around. Instead of buying flowers for Mother’s Day, have the children plant a couple of flowers in the garden. This way, every time mom looks out the window and sees them, she will be reminded of how much she is loved. This is pretty inexpensive and the kids can help out, it is also a great way to teach them how to do it and maybe, just maybe the kids can do it on their own next year! Stick with flowers from your local nursery or hardware store, mid May is too late to plant seeds, Mom will be waiting til August to have any blooms.
Movie Night
Streaming makes all sorts of movies accessible, pick out a nice family movie and sit down as a family and watch it, while you are watching, make sure to have some popcorn or other treats which are mom’s favorites!
You can even do a double feature and pick out another movie for when the kids go to bed – and since dad did such a great job with all the presents, maybe mom will even pick out an action movie!
These are just some simple quick ideas that dad can get to make Mother’s Day awesome.
Hey guys out there – remember, if you have a younger child, they cannot go to the store to pick up a Mother’s Day gift, this is your job! Do a good job and have some fun. Remember, Father’s Day is around the corner!
I’ve come to the conclusion that my wife loves plants of any sort. Every year she can expect a hanging basket on Mother’s Day from the kids and I. We got her a little hanging rack a couple of years ago and she puts it on the front porch.
A magazine subscription is something i’d never thought of, what a great gift idea!
Cool ideas. Thanks for sharing
Very good ideas here, I am going to have to steer my husband to it.
I would love the flowers in the garden! This is what I get my Mom every year! She has quite the rose garden now! LOL!
These are great ideas Dave! I would be happy with any of them. Love the idea of handmade cards. They’re the best.
