It’s hard to believe that just a few weeks ago we were in Florida. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and the palm trees were swaying in a light breeze. We came back to Michigan and were greeted with snow! Can you believe it? Snow in mid-April! It was chilly, cold and grey. Thankfully things are starting to warm up a bit. Even so the weather has me dreaming of Florida and I spent some time going through our trip photos.
One of the most memorable things we did when we were there was go on a dolphin cruise on Sanibel Island. The cruise was on a modified power boat which I thought was incredible! I grew up watching power boat races in a nearby lake here in Michigan and never dreamed I’d get the chance to ride in one – so as soon as I saw the boat I was ecstatic. I (almost) didn’t care if we didn’t get to see any dolphins.
Thankfully we were very lucky and it was as if the dolphins were waiting for us. As soon as we got into the open water they were jumping, twisting and twirling in our wake. Between our two phones and two cameras we were able to capture a number of fantastic photos.
And here’s a video:
Isn’t that amazing?
The sunset was beautiful too.
As you can see we thought this cruise was incredible and we would do it again in a heartbeat. We also highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The only thing to keep in mind is that the cruise lasts an hour and a half. We saw the dolphins for the first 20 minutes of the cruise and the rest was a historical tour of Sanibel and Captiva Islands. It was interesting learning the history but truthfully, I do wish they offered two seperate cruises – one for history and one for dolphins. This would be ideal for those crunched for time or who are only interested in one or the other.
We had a wonderful time on this dolphin cruise and hope to get to do it again sometime. It was a fun way to spend time together as a family and we all have memories, photos, and videos to reminisce about for years to come.
If you are interested in this cruise it’s called The Sanibel Thriller.
It sounds so fun! I have never seen a dolphin in the ocean before and they look beautiful.
I actually would like the history and the dolphon thing together, but yes, if someone just wanted one or the other that is a long outting.
Love the pictures!
THe cruise sounds interesting. WE loved riding bikes across the island and finding such interesting things as the tiny little historic cemetery still there .
Looks like such an amazing time! Your photos are awesome!
