Kora and Logan love to play with Play-Doh, so when we were presented with the opportunity to review Moon Dough, I quickly agreed.
Moon Dough is similar to Play-Doh, but the best thing about is – it never dries out, you can use it again and again. It’s hypo-allergenic and wheat free as well.
The texture of Moon Dough is a bit different but very cool. It is soft and marshmallow-like. The kids liked it and were able to work with it easily.
We were able to test out the Moon Dough Barnyard and it was an instant hit. The barn has animal molds in the roof where you put in the Moon Dough. Then you turn the crank on the back of the barn and out rolls an adorable horse, cow, sheep, or hen. The detail on the animals are amazing – you can see their facial features well and the sheep come out with cute swirls on their sides.
The Moon Dough Barnyard also comes with a hay mold and a fence mold. Both are easy to use and again the texture of the Moon Dough really helps show the detail in each bail of hay or section of fence. Also included is a farmyard play mat where the kids can play with their animals after they make them.
Here’s a video of Kora & Logan playing with the Moon Dough Barnyard. They are really excited about it!
The Moon Dough Barnyard has easily become one of Kora & Logan’s favorite toys. While it is a little messy, I didn’t find that it made any more of a mess than Play-Doh. I love Moon Dough because it encourages the kids’ creativity and imagination. It also keeps them busy for ages. So to me 5 extra minutes of clean-up is definitely worth it.
If you’re on the look out for a unique and fun gift for that 2-4 year-old in your life, I highly recommend Moon Dough. It comes in eight colors: Blue, Green, White, Orange, Purple, Red, Pink, and Yellow. There are a number of play sets available too. Since we love the Barnyard so much we will be putting the Moon Dough Pizza Shop, the Magic Molding Doghouse, and the Moon Dough Burger Shop on Kora & Logan’s Christmas lists.
Moon Dough is available at Toys “R” Us, Target, Walmart, Kmart, Amazon.com, A.C. Moore, Michaels, and eToys.

My 2 year old son has recently discovered Play-Doh but has a tough time with it because it becomes stiff. I am definitely going to keep my eyes open for Moon Dough! Obviously, your kids love it! Love the horse noise!!!!!
Yes, I think Moon Dough would be great for a 2-year-old because it never dries out. You may have to help him with the play sets, but whether you have that or not it still is great fun.
I much prefer playdough over Moon Sand…I’m assuming Moon Dough isn’t like Moon Sand, right? Moon Sand was created by Satan himself!!
My kids actually enjoy playdough but I don’t take it out often as they leave behind a huge mess. But this stuff looks like a lot of fun…I may be tempted.
We had Moon Sand once too and while it was very neat, it was so tough to clean up we couldn’t use it. However, my sister let her two play with it in their sun room which really was the perfect place for it. The kids loved it.
Moon Dough is much closer to Play-Doh and while it does create a bit of a mess when 3- and 4-year-olds are playing with it, I don’t think it’s terrible to clean up. Keeping it on the hardwoods is key and then you can just sweep up all the little pieces that have fallen to the floor. It’s no more work than cleaning up Play-Doh or putting the caps back on markers preschoolers have left behind. It really is fun to play with and makes the 5 minutes extra to clean it up worth it.
You had me at “it never dries out.” SWEET! I have to admit there have been quite a few tubes of play doh meet their end when I run out of time to clean it up and it dries out in the toy room. A mom only has so much time LOL
Thanks for this great review!
This stuff makes a huge mess!!! It is dry and flaky and gets everywhere. Plus, it seems to be made out of some kind of synthetic powdery substance that sort of cakes together once worked. Once worked, however, it still begins to flake and powder with very little manipulation. I’m sticking with play-doh.
i keep hearing about this stuff. maybe we’ll have to try it!
I’ve seen the commercials for this and thought it would be fun for my boys. The older two don’t seem to enthused but heck maybe I’ll play with it. lol
I think Moon Dough is a big hot mess! It crumbles all over the place. Crayola Model Magic and Playdough are much better products, and there is much less mess associated with these. Moon Dough has been banished forever from our house! This is now an outside toy – outside in the garbage that is.
I like the selection of colors! I think my 3yr old son would like Moon Dough! We’ll have to add this to his Christmas list.
I agree about the Moon Sand. I haven’t tried Moon Dough yet though. My kids love playdoh(even my almost 12 yr old altho she’s prolly publicly deny it)!
