Lightscoop is a low-tech device that eliminates the harsh glare of the flash by redirecting you’re camera’s pop-up flash to a ceiling or wall.
This tool will save you some pictures that you would ordinarily delete. Here are some samples of shots I took with and without LifeScoop and you can see the difference.
Without Lightscoop
With Lightscoop
You can see there’s an incredible difference in the two shots.
Lightscoop is easy to set-up. I used Lightscoop on my Nikon D50 and simply followed the directions. The only thing I did differently was to use the ‘menu’ on my monitor instead of the ‘button control’ indicated in the instructions.
One non-expected gain of using the Light Scoop was I became much more familiar with my own camera’s Manual advantages. This resulted in shooting other photos in the Manual mode and being satisfied with the results there too. Lightscoop helps put you in control of the final product instead of the “Auto” control features of your cameras. By having that control, you can lighten and darken you pictures as you wish.
Lightscoop reduces the harsh glare of the flash which has been a long-standing problem for photographers. Coincidentally, I was reading an Old Mechanix Illustrated from February of 1943. On page 98, an article titled “Filtered Flash for Tone Contrast” talks about the same problem, way back then. The solution, due to the Flash Bulb era, was to basically crumple colored (red / blue) cellophane around the light bulb. I thought this was so interesting.
While I believe the crumpled cellophane technique worked in those days, with the advances in modern day photography, I hardly think this would do today. That’s where Lightscoop comes in. And at $29.95, it’s nearly as affordable as the cellophane and you will have many more “keepers.”
Thank you to Lightscoop for providing the product for review. No compensation was provided. The opinions are mine.

I hope to upgrade to a DSLR soon. I’ll be wanting one of these to go with it .

Adding this to my Christmas wish list now!
I’m going to look for this-thanks!
It’s great to learn about Lightscoop. I have a nikon d90 and pretty new to digital photography. Having a way to deflect light and inexpensively is awesome
SUPER post! Thank you so much for sharing this. I am *trying* to learn to be a better photographer, and this post was so helpful!
I have a Canon Rebel XSi and can’t stand to use the built-in flash, so this looks like a wonderful product to try! I also have a Speedlite 430 exii but it makes the camera super heavy and is a pain to carry around all the time. Thanks for the info!
Very common problem! When I get a new camera I will have to keep this in mind.
