Last Day of Preschool

Summer is here! Tuesday was Logan’s last day of preschool and today is Kora’s.

The school year went way too fast for all of us. Kora & Logan love school and I enjoy the structure it adds to the day. Now we have summer stretching out before us with almost nothing scheduled except for gymnastics once a week.

This worries me a bit because if spring break was any indication of how the summer will go, we will all be happy when school starts back up in September!

Kora & Logan love being on the go and if we don’t have something planned each day they get cabin fever quickly. I’ve looked into a number of camps and classes they can take, but of course they cost money. I’d like to get them enrolled in one of two programs if possible, but if not we will be spending a lot of time in the backyard, at the park, and at the library.

It will be a fun summer and either way I foresee lots of bubbles being blown and chalk pictures drawn.

What will your kids be doing this summer?

We didn’t do preschool this year, but I do know having some kind of schedule helps with my kids. This summer Madeline is going to bible camp for a few days to get used to being away from mommy and siblings to prepare for preschool.
Other than that I try to plan something for at least three mornings a week, either a playgroup, a park trip, a zoo trip, library time, even errands to get us out of the house. Now this was before baby #3, so I don’t know how our lives will be this summer! But we do try and get out a few mornings a week. We have season passes to a local zoo as well as a local childrne’s museum. Berry picking is a great way to spend a few mornings as well. it costs a little, but you take home food! So it counts as part of the grocery bill =)
I joined my local MOMs club when Madeline was 6 months and thanks to that we have playgroups and park dates almost weekly.

    • I love the idea of berry picking (especially because it does count as part of the grocery bill)! I’ve always wanted to do it and for whatever reason completely forgot about it. My kids will have a blast!

I’m also involved in our local PTA, I will be sure to keep an eye on their activities and playdates too.

      Thanks for the summer suggestions!

Have you checked to see if there is a Macaroni Kid in your area. They would post weekly events you could check out. I am sure some are free. You could plan out your days at least a week at a time. Just a thought…

    • Thanks for the suggestion about looking for Macaroni Kid in my area. There is one and she does a great job posting lots of events. I will be looking forward to each newsletter this summer.

Tesa, maybe this will make you feel better. My daughter is a preschooler and we enrolled her in a summer camp last summer (a way-more-than-it-should-cost camp) She loved riding in the van and feeling like a “big girl”…that was the best part of camp. She has begged us NOT to send her back this year…Rather than go into details, suffice it to say that it was an “overwhelming” experience for her(which of course she didn’t tell us at the time)

So this summer? Lots and lots and lots of leisure, unstructured time, and choices…we’re looking forward to it. Hope you’ll have a wonderful summer, too.
For us, sometimes the things that are least planned, least expected, turn out to hold the most fun.

    • Thanks so much for the “been there – done that” advice on summer camp. I’m sorry to hear your daughter didn’t enjoy camp. It’s good advice though, preschoolers like to keep things simple and I think this will hold true for my two as well.

      Here’s to a wonderful summer!

No summer break here but the boys will be having a two week break sometime in June.
Over here, we have 4 school breaks – 1 week in April, 2 weeks in June, 1 week in August and a whole month in December.

    Enjoy your summer!!

    Have a wonderful weekend, Tesa.

Have a great summer and may you find many activities to keep your children entertained!

  6. Good luck! Hopefully you have 3 months worth of sidewalk chalk.

    Aren’t they loving it?

I’m with you..I’m a little worried about the next 8 weeks!

Yay for the library! I, too, am trying to balance keeping the kids busy and keeping us eating — some of the camps are soooo expensive. We will be doing swim lessons and my daughter is going to do an intro to ballet class.

The zoo is always a good choice!

But I know you know to never underestimate the power of bubble-blowing and chalk drawing, however! It’s those moments that make it all worthwhile.

  9. Oh, Camp Mom. It’s the best. I’m putting a lot of hope into the blow-up kiddie pool in our backyard.

Hannah had her last day today. She will go to some camps and do swimming lessons this summer, and of course play play play!!
