The Last Christmas Ornament by Judith Vicary Swisher is a children’s book with a unique twist on the typical holiday tale.
It’s told from the perspective of the Christmas ornaments.
As the family in the story unwrap their Christmas ornaments they enjoy remembering why each one is so special. After the tree is trimmed, the decorations come to life after being packed away for the year. The bells ring, some smile, while other twinkle. At night when the family is in bed they even whisper to each other.
As the holiday season winds down everyone is tired, including the ornaments. It’s time to pack away the Christmas decorations and as the ornaments are removed from the tree, they are packed safely in tissue paper in their boxes.
The tree is taken out to the curb, but the family doesn’t notice that the Little Blue Engine is still attached to the tree. The ornaments call out to each other and realize he’s not in the box with them and they start to worry. As the night gets darker and colder, the Little Blue Engine starts to worry too.
I won’t spoil the story and reveal how it ends, but I will say it is a book full of holiday spirit that carries right through to the end.
Kora and Logan enjoyed The Last Christmas Ornament. They pointed out the different ornaments and discussed their favorites. They both were concerned for the Little Blue Engine, but when the book was over they asked if I could read it to them again.
The Last Christmas Ornament is a sweet tale for the holiday season that will appeal to the preschoolers in your life. It’s a book that will stick with them as they go through childhood and I can see Kora & Logan talking about it often as they get older.
The book was provided for review. No compensation was received. The opinions are my own and that of my family.

That sounds very sweet. What great memories for your family.
