The Komen 3 Day For the Cure is here and I’m excited to have been selected by Energizer at their Keep Going Blogger for Cleveland. They have provided the participation fee and I’m sharing my experiences preparing for, training for, and walking the 3 Day.
I can’t believe that today is the first day of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® here in Cleveland! I also can’t believe that I would ever say that I’m excited to walk 60 miles!
I spent most of yesterday getting ready for the weekend. The biggest part of my day was spent packing.
It was tough getting everything into my bag, but I did it! My first major accomplishment of the weekend. Hopefully I’ll be able to tackle the mileage in the coming days with the same determination and drive that I had while packing yesterday!
You may notice some items of note that I’m bringing along with me:
- The Energizer Bunny. He will not only be there to keep me company but also to sit with me at the Energizer Tent after the walk. I’m hoping he will help strike up conversation with other walkers and crew members so I can share their stories with you readers.
- My New Balance 760’s. They have treated me wonderfully throughout training and I wouldn’t leave home without them.
- My Keep Going Blogger T-Shirts. I’ll be easily identifiable throughout the walk with these shirts and again am hoping they will be conversation-starters.
- My 2 Wired 2 Tired Baseball Hat. I made this adorable hat on Vistaprint. It’s cartoon images of Tired Dad Dave, myself, Kora, & Logan. It also has 2 Wired 2 Tired printed on it as well as the blog address. I thought it was a great way to carry my family with me and to promote the blog as well.
I’m also, of course, bringing along tons of other items as well. I referred to 3 or 4 different 3-Day for the Cure® packing lists to make sure I wouldn’t forget anything. I’m nervous though, because it wasn’t until 4:30 pm yesterday that I realized I hadn’t packed my second pair of walking shoes! So we’ll see later tonight what else I forgot!
The weather this weekend is supposed to be fairly nice, thankfully. They are saying low 80’s all weekend with a 30% chance of rain on Saturday. It’s supposed to hit low 60’s each night and one report even said low 50’s Saturday night. I’m a little worried about that because I can’t stand being cold. I packed a sweatshirt and extra blankets and am hoping it will be enough.
I received some extra motivation over the last couple of days because some final donations have been coming in from family and friends. So a big “Thank You!” to everyone who has donated to this wonderful cause!
Also, my hometown newspaper contacted me and wrote a really nice “Where Are They Now?” type article and profiled my participation in the 3-Day for the Cure. I was excited and thought it was great.
Throughout this weekend I will be tweeting @2Wired2Tired and blogging in the evenings. I hope to be sharing lots of photos and videos with you, writing about my thoughts and feelings during the event, and sharing the stories of others participants as well.
I hope you’ll come with me along the final leg of this journey. I’ve tried to provide inspiring and motivating content throughout the training period and this weekend myself and the other walkers may need to you to help us persevere. Any inspiring comments, messages, or tweets that you can send us will really help us Keep Going®!
Thanks in advance and wish me luck!
Wishing you the best with your walk!
So glad it looks like good weather! You’re rocking as you walk and tweet. Have a safe weekend.
Good Luck Tesa!
oh hooray for good weather! I was hoping it would cooperate. And more donations, yes!! I really admire you for doing this and I have enjoyed reading about your journey so far.
And yes, that hat is so fun. I love that hat!
GOOD LUCK TESA!!! I’m so excited to read all about it so I know what’s in store for me in 16 weeks. :) Also, I LOVE that hat! I think I need one…
Best of luck to you! I think it is awesome that you are participating in the walk! I saw the feature on Fox8 News this morning and thought about you.
