A Children’s Book Must-Have: If I Could Keep You Little

Children have a rather annoying habit of growing up too quickly in my opinion. I can hardly believe that baby Emma is 9 months old already. I know my pregnancy with her didn’t fly by nearly as fast! If I Could Keep You Little by Marianne Richmond is a sweet book about being a parent and watching our babies grow up and change. It reminds us to treasure the right now when they are little and the exciting things they will do and be as they grow.

Some of my favorite parts of the story perfectly describe my Mackenzie – here I thought she was the only kid that liked ketchup on everything!

If I could keep you little,
I’d decide on matching clothes.
But then I’d miss you choosing
dots on top and stripes below

If I could keep you little
I’d cut your bread in shapes.
But then I’d miss you finding
“Hey! I like ketchup with my grapes!”

The illustrations are beautiful, colorful watercolors that Mackenzie loves to look at over and over.

This book is written in poem style and just the right length for a bedtime story and it’s been in heavy rotation at our house.

I’ll be honest, If I Could Keep You Little makes me tear up a bit too. Our family is just right with 2 beautiful little girls so we’re going through all the baby things for the last time.

This book is a great reminder how I need to cherish each day and appreciate all the crazy, want to rip my hair out days with them as they soon will move on to bigger and more exciting things.

I am a new mommy and very emotional as you can probably relate and started crying just by reading the excerpt. I never heard of this book but I always catch myself saying….you are growing up too fast little girl…to my daughter. I’m getting this book!
