So today I “let” Tired Dad Dave drive the Malibu for a portion of the day and I went back to driving our old car. While he had a great time enjoying the remote start, the XM radio, and the lumbar support (by far, his favorite!), I was stuck with our old boring car that is currently making a really annoying squealing noise when we start it.
I’ve found that one of the best ways to appreciate what you have, is to do without it for awhile. It’s kind of like a kid with too many toys and we know this from experience. Don’t tell Kora & Logan, but since both their birthdays are so close to the holidays we hide some of their toys. This when we bring them out here and there throughout the year, they don’t tire of them as quickly.
This was true for me and the Malibu. While the car I drove today was wonderful the year we got it (2000), it’s aged a little since then and is lacking many of the fancy new features of the Malibu. The feature I missed the most was the remote start. It was around 85 degrees here today and I had to climb into an overheated car and wait for it to slo-o-o-owly cool down. In the Malibu, I would have hit the remote start, had the kids get their sandals on (which for two preschoolers takes much longer than you think), and by the time we locked up the house and opened the car doors, it would have cooled down to a nice 68 degrees.
So, Tired Dad Dave’s had his turn. Tomorrow, I’m getting my Malibu back and I can’t wait!
Thanks again to Chevy for selecting me as part of the Gotta Love Chevy NEO Girlfriend Getaway Program, for the Chevy Malibu for review, and gift cards to cover weekly expeditions. No compensation was received.

We hide our kids excess birthday gifts, too. Otherwise, they go on overload and then get bored.
Even if you had to give it up for the day, I am still so jealous of you to get to review the Malibu — WAY cool!!!

Wow good deal on the month long free rental. I know what you mean about missing the newer features when driving other cars. My Prius requires no keys to unlock it or start it. When I have to use our other car or vacation rentals, it’s so annoying to have to find the keys in the bottom of my purse! Uggh
I actually was in a new Malibu while vacationing in California. The backseat is extremely roomy as I was not the driver.
Nice car…I would have a hard time letting someone “borrow” it for a day too.
Thankfully you only had to go 1 day. I’ve done that before. Switch the kids toys out. You would think they were new how excited they get. I’m sure thats how you were when you drove your car.
OH I dream of owning a new Chevy! They always have been one of my favorite American car manufacturers! Josh’s Chevy Silverado is doing so well, even if it is a 1993 :D
