About a year or so ago, we started buying ground turkey instead of ground beef. We made this transition because of budget reasons and we were happy that as a result, we were being a bit more health-conscious as well. Another bonus was that we didn’t notice any taste difference in our burgers, sloppy joes, or chili.
While we enjoy the turkey products, as time passed we were ready for a bit of variety. Lucky for us a wonderful opportunity to try an alternative to the typical beef or turkey products came along.
We were contacted about High Plains Bison, which is a company that produces bison products that are naturally lean and lower in fat than other meat products. They state that their bison is, “Low in cholesterol, low in sodium, a great source of iron and a healthy dose of Omega 3 fatty acids to boot.”
The first product we tried were the Bison Ribeye Steaks.
They were really delicious – easy to cut, juicy, and very tasty. We would definitely get the steaks again and would recommend them to others.
We also tried the Italian Sausages and the Bison Dogs in separate meals. Neither were as wonderful as the steaks, but does anything ever compare to steak? Tired Dad Dave thought the Italian Sausages were good enough to try again sometime. We both agreed that the Bison Dogs didn’t taste much different than regular hot dogs, which isn’t a bad thing. We just thought that since the other products had a higher caliber taste, the hot dogs would too.
All in all, we loved the steaks. In fact, I think Tired Dad Dave could eat a Bison Ribeye Steak every night!

We love bison products!! In fact, oldest asks for bison steaks as his birthday dinner every year. It is such a wonderful alternative to beef. Glad your family enjoys it too :)
Bison? Really? I’ve never heard of it! Well, I mean I’ve heard of the animal but I’ve never heard of anyone eating it!! We’re not big red meat eaters otherwise I’d try it…it definitely sounds good!
