The Junkins Family was thrilled to be picked to test out a new product, the Healthy Habits Kids Plate. The dish is a toddler’s divided plate with images and coordinating reminders about food groups and portion sizes based on the food pyramid.
I have to admit that as a mom and a person, I am not the most healthy eater, but as a nurse and a parent, promoting healthy eating to my kids is really important to me! This plate actually was a huge success in my house!
It not only made me realize that not only had I been serving my children way too much of the carb/grain group, but also showed that I was skimping on the fruit and veggie portions!
After our son Carter, 18 months, was using the dish, our only complaint came from the older two kids, aged 5 and 7, who were actually jealous of the cool new plate, but then stopped to complain that Carter had been served more broccoli than they had!
Carter then decided to throw some broccoli at them- so this seemed to solve the problem (while creating another!) Hmmm- who knew a plate could actually help make kids eat dinner so easily!
I am happy to report that the dish has been through the top rack of the dishwasher several times and is being used daily! This product was a great find! I wish I had thought of it!
Here’s a video of Avery using the plate to play a little learning game about healthy foods:
The Healthy Habits Kids Plate is available at www.superhealthykids.com and the creator, Amy Roskelley, is a mom with several degrees in health education, has kept the price of the plate affordable for everyone. At $4.99 it would be a great addition to mealtime!
Thank you to the company for providing the plate for review. No compensation was received. The opinions are mine and that of my family.

What a great idea. Looks fantastic. x
This looks great. x
Those kinds of visuals are just what we need!
We loved the plate but then ran into a problem with “casserole” type dinners where the foods are mixed! Oh well! Thank goodness for divided plates!
What a cool plate. I wish we’d had that when my kids were smaller. I didn’t realize how out of wack my carbs to veggie ratio was either.
What a great idea! I think its easy to forget portion sizes and this is a great physical reminder everyday.
I LOVE the video!! Thanks for sharing your experience!
i want this my daughter eats more meat an no veggies, maybe this will be fun for her an shell eat her veggies
What a great idea! It’s so important for little ones to eat a balanced meal. I try to make sure that my 3 yr old son gets a food from each of the food groups at meal time. But, this would certainly help! I like how Avery made a lesson out of it!
