Last weekend we went to an advanced screening of Gnomeo & Juliet. I was really excited for Kora & Logan because it was their very first 3D movie. They’ve been to the OMNIMAX at the Great Lakes Science Center, so I didn’t think they would have too much of a problem with 3D images coming at them. I did wonder what they would think of keeping the glasses on the entire time and was crossing my fingers that there would be no sad or scary parts. Thankfully, the movie was cute, funny, and while there was a big dog and one slightly sad segment, we all loved it!When we arrived at the theater Q104, a local radio station, was holding a drawing for a wide selection of prizes including DVDs and tobogganing tickets. It was a fun and festive atmosphere and everyone was smiling and excited to see the movie. We headed into the theater and found our reserved seats:
While waiting for the drawing to begin and the movie to start, I was pleased to get to know Saving in Akron who was sitting near us. She’s an incredible deal blogger who finds and shares great bargains on her blog. After chatting with her for awhile, they held the drawing. We didn’t win anything, but those who did were very excited about their prizes so that made it lots of fun.
Once the previews started, we had Kora and Logan put on their 3D glasses to get used to them. I was happy to see that they didn’t mind them at all and in fact, even enjoyed wearing them during the non-3D previews. Honestly, I’m not sure how they could stand that because when I put on my glasses to see what they were seeing, the film that wasn’t 3D was very stripey and flickered, but they didn’t mind at all.
Once Gnomeo & Juliet started the kids were entranced. They could barely take their eyes off the screen. The movie is an entertaining rendition of Romeo & Juliet, only with Garden Gnomes. Kora and Logan loved the gnomes and kept calling them elves and saying how cute they were – I have to agree they were pretty adorable.
The premise of the movie is the Blue Gnomes and the Red Gnomes are rivals and they live side-by-side in neighboring yards.
As daily life goes on, Juliet gets restless and decides to hunt down a very special flower to put in her red garden which will be the envy of all the red gnomes. While on her mission she runs into Romeo and at first, because they are disguised, they don’t know that they are supposed to be enemies and they end up falling in love.
It’s not long before they discover that she is a “Red” and he is a “Blue.” Drama, lots of laughs, and even a few tears ensue.
I don’t want to give too much away so I’ll stop there. I will say that the tears are minimal and the big dog is more funny than scary, just in case anyone reading is wondering whether they should take their timid toddler or preschooler. Kora and Logan are pretty sensitive to sad and scary movie scenes and while Kora did tear up at one point – due to her own misunderstanding, we got it straightened out and everyone was laughing again just minutes later.
We all enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to anyone looking to be entertained. It’s packed full of lots of laughs, for both children and adults. The 3D effects and animation are impressive too. Kora & Logan kept their glasses on for the whole movie and said, “Wow!” more than once when objects seemed to come out of the screen. Over the past couple of days they’ve been talking about the movie a lot and get really excited whenever they see pictures or previews for the movie.
I asked the kids what part of the movie they liked the most and Kora said she liked Gnomeo. I was surprised by that, thinking with her princess and all-things-girl obsession, Juliet would be her instant favorite. When I asked her what she liked about Gnomeo, she replied, “I like him best because he’s handsome.” Uh oh!
Gnomeo & Juliet opens in theaters across the U.S. on Friday, February 11th, but you can get a sneak peek into the movie by watching the newly released clips below. Enjoy!
Thank you to Disney for providing the tickets for review. No compensation was received. The opinions are my own and that of my family.

Sounds like a good movie. We may have to check it out.
The kids sure seemed to enjoy it! I can’t wait to see it!
Looks like SUCH a cute movie! But I haven’t seen any previews here in Boston, Mass :( If I didn’t read this post this could have passed right by me! Now i’m off to see where its showing in my area!
Those pics with the 3d glasses are priceless. I’d love to see the movie but I think I’ll be waiting for Netflix, hehe. Glad you guys had a good time.

I not to mention my guys were found to be looking at the good hints located on your web blog and so immediately got a horrible feeling I had not expressed respect to the web site owner for those secrets. My young boys appeared to be totally stimulated to see all of them and now have certainly been using these things. Thanks for truly being really thoughtful and for making a decision on this kind of important guides millions of individuals are really desirous to understand about. My honest apologies for not saying thanks to you sooner. 5
