Randy and I have lived in lower Michigan our entire lives. The beauty of our area is amazing from the grandeur of Lake Huron, the many Metro Parks that are within driving distance, the freighters a stone throw away on St. Clair River, to the large number of walking paths that traverse through the many wooded areas surrounding us.
We have often heard that the most beautiful sight in Michigan is Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the upper peninsula. It, however, took us until last year to decide to check it out for ourselves. We were excited to find that it was as amazing as everyone has said and we were happy to work with Easy Canvas Prints allowed us to develop a canvas print so that we have that memory on our walls for the future.
Pictured Rocks is located in Munising, Michigan. They are sandstone cliffs that rise 50 to 200 feet up from Lake Superior. Mineral seepage creates the colors. Red and orange are iron, green and blue are copper, black is manganese, and white is lime. We were told that the best way to enjoy them was by boat and since we don’t have our own, we joined the group that was waiting for the tour boat.
While we were waiting we got into a conversation with a young man who was from Minnesota and was riding his bike around the shoreline of the upper peninsula. The forty mile tour takes about three hours and is narrated the entire way. It sounded amazing.
The minute the cliffs came into view the continuous snapping of cameras could be heard. A veteran tourist finally said “we are not even to the best part yet, just wait.” He was rightt as we rounded the bend it was one of the most inspiring views I had ever seen. We passed the Indianhead Rock Formation, Miner’s Castle Rock Formation, Painted Coves, East Channel Lighthouse, several waterfalls and many other rock formations.
The picture we decided to develop is a close up of Lover’s Leap. This is where supposedly a couple displayed their love for each other by jumping off the top together.
I do want to note that when I went to order the picture, once I put in your credit card number and hit next, it is submitted. There is no verification of this order. I did not realize that and backed out and started over. I ended up ordering two pictures! Luckily customer service was fantastic and they were very understanding. I was happy that they made it easy for me to cancel the one order.
The picture hanging on our wall makes me smile every time I walk into the room, remembering with great fondness our trip in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
