Dreaming at The Auto Show

Last night Tired Dad Dave and I had an opportunity to attend the 2010 Cleveland Auto Show. The last time I was at the Auto Show it was before we had kids, so it was a real treat to get to go.

We are desperately in need of a new family car, so I was very excited to have to opportunity to sit in and check out some of the options there.

It wasn’t long before I found my favorite. The GMC Acadia:

Although white is not a color I would choose, it looked like a great family car with 3 rows of seating, a 5-star crash-test rating, and it felt comfortable and offered lots of space for all riders.

While I was checking out the perfect family ride, Tired Dad Dave was eyeing up something entirely different.

The McLaren – of course:

It’s certainly not sensible, but it is fun to dream! And that’s what the auto shows are all about. Not only do you get a chance to gaze at $500,000 cars, you can open the doors and climb into a wide variety of both practical and fun choices.

One of the most fascinating areas of the show was Camp Jeep. You can ride along as a Jeep climbs a steep hill, bounces around over rough terrain, and even drives on its side.

We also couldn’t miss another fun and unexpected aspect of the Cleveland Auto Show. The IX Center, where the show takes place, has an enormous ferris wheel smack in the middle of everything. In fact, the ferris wheel actually sticks out of the top of building. It is enclosed, but how fun is that to ride right up and out of the building?

How about you? Do you like going to The Auto Show and dreaming? Or would you rather stay home and wait until you had the money to look for a new car?

I would love to go to an Auto Show if there was some around here. I had my eyes on Acadia myself. I am GMC fan and I had so much luck with any of their vehicles in a past.

A Ferris Wheel in the building???? AWESOME! I would totally love an Acadia! Do you think it would work well with 3 kids? I always said I’d never own a minivan but I must admit it’s very convenient!

    • I think the Acadia would be a nice fit for three kids. The third row is a bit tight if an adult were to ride there for a long period of time, but I don’t think the smaller leg space would bother kids at all. And I like to think of it as a family SUV rather than a mini-van! :)

  4. I’ve never been to an auto show, but it looks like fun. We need a new family car too. Love that GMC.

That first one looks so small to be so roomy!!! Cute though! I have never been to an auto show. They do one in Detroit, but I’ve never driven over there.

Now if you could just get GM to give you an Acadia to review. LOL

Greg would go in a heartbeat! Me… hmm… I’d be too tempted to want to buy one. Lol.

My hubby loves to take the kids to car shows…I usually pass and stay home to clean. If we had the money Tim would own every car out there.

    The ferris wheel is awesome!!!

Thank you for all your kind words the other day on my 1000 followers post!! So glad I “met” you!

We always loved going to the auto show, pre-kid that is-it is much harder to keep the kids interested at ours. (The ferris wheel alone would have me attending the one in Cleveland!) We will probably be in need of a new car in a year or so, but until then we will dream too…

  11. We love going to the car show, but just my husband and myself. We can dream about what kind of car we are going to get when the kids grow up. For now, it’s vans for both of us…not very classy, but practical!!!

I love going to the Auto Show! We missed out this year, and weren’t terribly upset though. The past couple years have been SO FREAKIN’ BUSY that it’s been almost not fun. I think next year we’re going to try and go on one of the weekdays and see if the crowds are more manageable!

I love to go to the auto and even the RV shows, dreaming is fun. Sport cars are my favorites, but they are so impracticle for me to drive. Climing in and pretending can be alot of fun and I like seeing all the new cars coming onto the market.
