I’ve been seeing a lot of wreath tutorials floating around the internet and at this point many of them look a bit too advanced for my crafting skills. However, once I came across rag wreaths I thought they looked very cute and like something I could do with Kora & Logan. We gave one a try over the weekend and I was thrilled with how simple it was and how beautifully it came out. We had such a wonderful time together and are so pleased with this wreath that we can’t wait to make another!
First start with your supplies. You need a wreath form, fabric scraps, and scissors. I didn’t have fabric scraps so I went to the craft store and found packages of craft panels for an affordable price. I liked the package because all the colors were a nice mix and match. Fabric scraps would be fun too because they would be full of memories.
Employ your helpers or enjoy your me time by cutting your fabric panels into 1″ wide by 12″ long strips.
Or sort through your fabric scraps for a pile of your favorites.
Then start tying the scraps around your wreath. We knotted them for safe keeping.
Continue to tie the strips all the way around the wreath making sure to push them tightly together.
This actually went much faster than I thought it would especially because Kora & Logan had so much fun practicing their knots.
Once it was done we were pretty excited with how it looked and I tied a ribbon around it to hang it.
As we looked at it hanging on the wall we all agreed that while the spring colors blended nicely it didn’t have quite the looked we expected. All of the fabric we used had a plain white background. Some color did shine through but the white took away from the overall look. In the future I would make sure to use fabric that had a pattern on both sides.
We also felt that the strips were far too long for the size wreath we chose so we decided to give it a haircut.
I love this look. It’s very cute and pretty. Kora keeps saying the knots look like little spring flowers.
Not only did we think the knotted side was pretty but the back turned out beautifully as well.
Honestly we can’t decide which side we like better. Instead of hanging it on the wall or a door I may hang it from our plant hook in our dining room so it will spin a bit and we can enjoy both sides.
This simple spring rag wreath turned out to be so festive, fun, and pretty that I’m excited to make another. It was much easier than I thought it would be and offered a fun-filled family morning. I had a great time making this with Kora & Logan and hope you have fun making it as well.
What about you? What spring projects do you enjoy working on?
Beautiful Wreath & I love the pastel colors! I will make this because it looks like so much fun to do with my crafty friends! Thanks for sharing!
I love this idea for a wreath. Seems very easy to do. I am also thinking I could sue burlap as well., Great ideas!
What a pretty yet simple craft project, perfect for the kids.
I love this. I agree it looks a lot better with a hair cut. I cant decide which side I like better either.
How cute! I love getting the kids involved in making craft projects.
I love this DIY project. It looks pretty and a lot of fun to make.
