I’m always interested in random facts and trivia. So here’s to a new post that will be showing up whenever I run into something worth sharing. I will keep it parenting, child, or household related.
Let’s start Did You Know? off with something truly disgusting:
- I was at the gym working out yesterday and Dr. Oz was on. He said that after 5 years, 10% of the weight of your pillow consists of dust mites and dust mite feces.
I’m off to throw all our pillows in the washing machine on hot and next time we have spare change, it’s new pillows for the whole family! Ugh.
I was going to put a “cute” picture of a dust mite here,
but they are so revolting even in cartoon form I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

Totally gross, I have heard that before too. I am a huge pillow freak and get new ones frequently because I never find on that I love!
I'm going to get in trouble if my wife sees this, so keep it hush hush… Her pillows are AT LEAST 6 years old (how long we've been together). She loves them and will NOT replace them. I just asked her "How old are your pillows?"
She looked at my screen and said "I'm not talking to you about this."
My MIL has kept her pillows for at least as long as I've been with my husband and that's been 10 years! I have to replace them every 2 years or so because I just imagine what's collected in there!

My mom has pillows that are almost as old as me…thankfully they aren't the ones she uses regularly…cause that's just nasty!
I often wash ours…but I think we may be due for new ones anyway.
