Books are my constant companion when I’m traveling for work. I love to read and have my whole life, but since having my girls, the only time I have for fun reading is on airplanes and in airports. Also, as silly as this is, I only read paperbacks – hardcovers take up too much room in my bag! In the past few years I’ve become a fan of “Chick Lit” and that genre is pretty much all I read these days. I like lighthearted stories of women that are relatable to me and my life.
Deep Down True by Juliette Fay is about newly divorced Dana Stellgarten. She has always been the “nice girl”. But now money is tight, her happy son is develops anger management problems, her daughter is struggling with the social complexities of middle school, and her Goth teenage niece has moved in and has brought along her own set of problems. As Dana enters into a post-divorce romance and is befriended by the town queen bee, she finds that the battle between being true to yourself and being liked, doesn’t end in middle school and that sometimes we need to rely on our true friends to help us overcome life’s obstacles.
As I was reading this book, there were many moments or things Dana said or did where I found myself thinking “me too!” or “exactly!” Juliette Fay captures the spirit and craziness that is the life of a Mom, trying desperately to hold it all together and do the best she can with what she has, which I can certainly relate to!
This book trailer for Deep Down True gives great insight into the story:
Deep Down True has earned a place on my bookshelf as a go-to great read and I’ve already requested Juliette Fay’s first book, Shelter Me, from the library for my next plane ride.

interesting; I’m into real life crime dramas or thrillers but this does look like a good read too :-)
Not only are they wrong, but it looks like most Americans are starting to see that they are wrong.
I love memoirs but when I want something a little more light and quick yet just as great I turn to “chick lit”-this book looks great.
