It is prime cold and flu season in Northeast Ohio and it seems as though everyone I know is battling some sort of yuckiness. It’s gotten to the point where different trials of antibiotics and over the counter medications just aren’t helping anymore. Lucky for me, Home Remedies from a Country Doctorarrived at our house just before all the germs did.
Home Remedies from a Country Doctor is a collection of over 1,400 drug-free, country tested home remedies from over 250 country doctors, herbalists, nurses, midwives and other medical professionals. Many common ailments can be treated with items found in your home, naturally, which is important especially when our little ones get sick. There are also remedies for more unusual incidents, such as dealing with barbed wire cuts.
Why I Like Home Remedies from a Country Doctor
- The book is organized alphabetically by condition/ailment making it easy to find what exactly I’m looking for
- Offers non-medication remedies which I feel better about using on my girls
- Most remedies are made from items I already have at home
- Remedies are often things I wouldn’t have thought of using but make perfect sense
What Could Be Improved
While I liked this book, I found most of the remedies to be pretty common sense. One of the treatments for under eye circles – which I was very excited to read about – was to use concealing make-up to cover up the circles. Or if you find that wool makes you itch, stop wearing wool clothes. I was hoping for more unconventional treatments that aren’t usually thought of.
Overall, Home Remedies from a Country Doctoris a nice book to have as backup for when traditional medicine isn’t working or to try homeopathic remedies before taking the kids to the doctor.

I use a lot of herbal remedies and would like to see what this book offers.
Thanks for the review.
I am all for home remedies. It’s all people had for many years. My great grandmother used to mix up remedies. I just wish someone had written them down.
