My Poor Zucchini Plants

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

We were doing so well this year with our garden. I even bragged about it in The Secret to a Beautiful Summer Garden.

I should know better.

Our two zucchini plants were growing beautifully and were producing a large zucchini once a week or so. The leaves though, had gotten so big they were growing out over the other plants. Our cucumbers weren’t turning green because of all the shade and the zucchini leaves were starting to droop into the driveway.

So I cut them back.

Now they look like this:

Siblings Sharing a Room – Help!

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Whoever built our house felt it unnecessary to put vents in all of the rooms. When we bought the house we didn’t think it was a big deal because our plan was to move before we had children. 7 years later we are still here.

Since some of the rooms don’t have vents they obviously get very hot or very cold. This leads to Kora and Logan sharing a room most months out of the year.

When they were younger it wasn’t a problem because they went to bed at different times and therefore fell asleep quickly. Not true any more.

I’m on Mom Talk Radio and in Redbook

Friday, August 27th, 2010

I’m really excited to announce that this Sunday, August 29th at 8 pm, I’ll be on Mom Talk Radio for the Mom’s Roundtable!

Myself, mom blogger- Kelly, and Maria Bailey will be discussing raising 2 children under the age of 2.  We will be sharing our experiences having 2 under 2 and offering hope to those out there currently in the midst of it. Maria actually had 3 under 20 months! Can you believe it?! She says she made it through and now her children are best friends in their teen years and it was well worth it.

So tune in Sunday at 8 pm on Mom Talk Radio to hear more about our lives with 2 under 2.

Also, if you have, or are expecting, 2 under 2 or know someone who is, come on over to my Cafe Mom Group – 2 Under 2.  There you will find nearly 700 moms in the same situation who are looking to each other for advice, tips, and tricks for those closely spaced siblings. The group is always open to new members and we would love to have you and help if we can.

I’m also happy to say that I’m quoted in the September issue of Redbook! The section I’m in addresses Pet Loss and young children. I discuss how we have been helping Kora & Logan cope with the loss of our dog, Avery. While it’s a sad and tough topic, I think the magazine did a wonderful job offering lots of tips for readers about how they can help their children through what could be a very difficult time.

I am very happy to say that Redbook even included the accent over my “e” in my name. That never happens! In fact, you’ll notice in the Mom Talk Radio segment, I’m referred to as Tessa. That always happens. I try to correct people, but in certain situations such as this one, there just isn’t enough time. It’s no big deal though, it’s still me, and I’m still excited about the radio show and the magazine quote.

Cleveland Browns Training Camp

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Yesterday we had the amazing opportunity of attending the Cleveland Browns Training Camp as VIP Guests of Chevy.  It was a wonderful event and a beautiful evening.

We got to park the Chevy Malibu in the Players Parking Lot and felt like true VIPs when we found our parking spot:

We had a delicious tailgate dinner of hot dogs and chips in the VIP tent:

We watched the Browns practice:

Last weekend we had the wonderful opportunity to take a road/boat trip to the Lake Erie Islands. The first day we vacationed on Put-in-Bay. The morning of Day 2, we woke up early (since our 2 preschoolers think 7 am is sleeping in!), packed up our things, and stopped at Put-in-Bay’s beautiful playground before our trip to Kelleys Island.

The Secret to a Beautiful Summer Garden

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Tired Dad Dave and I stumbled upon the secret to growing a beautiful summer garden. It’s very low tech and may be obvious to some readers, but we are not blessed with green thumbs here at 2 Wired 2 Tired. After living in the house for 7 years we only just stumbled upon it last summer. And our garden this summer is truly gorgeous because of it.

Are you ready for me to let you in on the secret?

It’s a….. Read More→

As you may have noticed in my tweets over the last couple of days we here at 2 Wired 2 Tired, took a much needed family vacation to the Lake Erie Shores & Islands.  It was the perfect family getaway.

As we were packing to go, Kora and Logan kept asking, “When are we leaving for bah-cation?” and “What’s a bo-tel?” It had been a while since we traveled, but I didn’t think it had was that long. Mental note – get the kids out more!

A photo from our last family “bah-cation” where we stayed in a “bo-tel.” Apparently it has been awhile!

We started our trip with a ride on the Miller Ferry which departed from Catawba Island. Since our trip was spanning a Sunday and Monday, ferry traffic going in our direction was minimal. We parked our car on the boat, climbed to the upper deck, and grabbed a seat ready to cross Lake Erie. The ride was smooth and we watched and waved to other boats as they sailed around us.

Things Our Kids Will Never Know

Monday, July 19th, 2010

While at a parenting seminar at Kora & Logan’s preschool in the Spring, we discussed the digital age we live in. With technology impacting every part of our lives, we talked about the things today’s children may never learn to do.

I was amazed at how old I felt after the meeting!

Our Kids May Never Learn To:

- Write in cursive (keyboarding and texting skills are now more necessary)

- Use a chalkboard (schools are now turning to advanced versions of white boards)

2 Under 2: Best Friends or Worst Enemies?

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Before I start this post I’m knocking on wood big time and keeping my fingers crossed too, just in case.

I know one of the main concerns of parents expecting two children under the age of 2 is whether they will resent each other or not.

We have been so lucky in this regard. While I will say that the first year to two years of raising kids 14 months apart was extremely difficult, it was for different reasons. Kora was never jealous, thankfully. Even when I was ill and in the hospital so often after Logan’s birth, she never showed any signs of acting out or resentment towards me or Logan.  We struggled more with the logistics of having two children close in age while I recovered from a major illness and while Tired Dad Dave worked to get his own business off the ground.

Sick Day

Monday, July 12th, 2010

I’m calling in sick today. Well, since I’m actually writing this on Sunday I’m calling in sick for yesterday. I was bit by a nasty stomach bug, chills, fever etc. Fun stuff.

Anyway, I’m sure you don’t want to read the gory details so instead here’s a flashback picture to make up for my absence.

It’s from 2008, one of the first times I set-up both kids to paint at the same time. I only left the room for a minute….
